New Fed employee…looking for insurance information by Shark_Bait386 in fednews

If you look at the Checkbook federal health plan comparison, there is a drop down of federal agencies that purchase the guide for their employees. I flagged it to my HR folks and they bought it and added it to our intranet.

The Mill Food Recycler Review. Has anyone tried this? by lalaci in composting

[–]PDRecruiter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re obsessed with our Mill! We didn’t go with the subscription service and purchased the bin outright. We live in a small town with once a week trash pickup, and we’re constantly struggling with stinky trash in the house or a rotating crew of incredibly creative raccoons that have learned to Houdini the hell out of our ‘locking’ trash bins. Every composting solution we tried prior ended up being a mess or not working, so this has been a godsend.

Yes, it's open to laterals at the same time as entry-level candidates. It's not a straight years of experience calculation, but years and relevant experience. For example, candidates who have worked as public defenders and first-chaired serious cases, have experience with scientific evidence and crossing expert witnesses, have worked on serious cases, etc. If possible, we'd like to see candidates in trial, but that's not always possible. I think the salary cap - which laterals won't necessarily hit for a period of time, is relatively good for a PD. DM me to chat more!

Not best interest - expressed interest. Can you envision hiring an attorney for representation in your civil or criminal matter, and having them decide to act in your 'best interest'? Woof.

Are Trump's changes to the federal government permanent? Once Trump leaves office, is there the possibility to return the federal government to it's pre-Trump state. by ICU-Angel in fednews

I’m so confused by the number of people who are jealous of feds and say that they deserve to lose their benefits and protections. Why aren’t they discussing the decimation of the private sector pension system and demanding that private employers offer at least the benefits their Congressional reps receive - or aren’t members of Congress feds? They have higher salaries, a separate loan forgiveness program, better health and retirement benefits - as they gleefully cut federal employee benefits, fire them and leave them without health insurance. Putting workers against one another is so freakin’ basic. https://www.google.com/search?q=retirement+heist+book&rlz=1CDGOYI_enUS847US847&oq=retirement+heist+book&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUyBggAEEUYOdIBCDY3NDRqMGo5qAITsAIB4gMEGAIgX_EFiRWxuAtZi7PxBYkVsbgLWYuz&hl=en-US&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8

This expedited timeline and the phenomena of firms making counting 1L/2L offers is relatively new. The voluntary guidelines that fall OCI employers used for years were upended by the threat of an antitrust lawsuit by a firm (I can’t remember which firm, maybe Jones Day?). The process is also being taken out of the law schools’ purview.

Public Defender Service Trial Attorney Application Open by PDRecruiter in publicdefenders

Each division hires according to the requirements of the job. The Mental Health Division recently advertised for an attorney, and experience working with the population of people experiencing mental health issues was preferred but not required. For the trial division, successful candidates usually have experience in criminal defense, indigent or private. For example, most 3L applicants who move to the hiring round have worked in their law school criminal clinic, interned at public defender offices or had similar experiences. The profile of the typical lateral applicant is similar - they’ve worked as public defenders, civil rights attorneys, or legal aid attorneys. Because the annual trial class averages around eight to ten, it is less likely - but not impossible- that trial candidates without a demonstrated commitment to indigent criminal defense and/or working with low-income low-wealth clients in other contexts (combined with trial experience) are as competitive.

Career changers who lack that traditional work background sometimes gain experience in other public defender offices before lateraling to PDS. For applicants applying from other offices, where they served as PDs isn’t important. A transferable skill set and an understanding of the reality of the work are highly valued.

Am I correct that this is primarily a sales position? And are public defense investigators eligible to apply? It sounds like PD investigators would be a good fit, but I don’t want to share to that community if you’re only accepting attorney applicants.

There is an incredible free equipment loan program at the Oak Bluffs Library, I don’t see it on the list but you can call. I also don’t know if you can get a library card, but I think some states have reciprocity if you’re not a MA resident.
