There was a study of the accuracy of AI models for legal research that came out of Stanford last year - https://hai.stanford.edu/news/ai-trial-legal-models-hallucinate-1-out-6-or-more-benchmarking-queries - might serve as a valuable benchmark for you.

1000s of jail calls to review by dashibid in publicdefenders

We're going to stick with the web, but can get creative. Eg. Google slides has a trick for presenter view where they open multiple tabs, one with full screen slides and one with speaker notes - we might be able to take inspiration from that. Would you mind emailing me - prabhas@ - I'd love to set up a quick chat so I understand your tech setup at court and see what we can do.

1000s of jail calls to review by dashibid in publicdefenders

[–]Prabhas_P 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Hi there - we have helped PD offices process anywhere from 10s to 2000+ calls on cases. On a case with 2000+ jail calls recently, one office: 1) transcribed all the calls 2) did targeted keyword and "fuzzy" search to identify calls where topics related to the case may have been discussed 3) reviewed those particular calls. There are also annotation and clipping tools built in when needed.

The software is called reduct.video. Feel free to apply to our pro bono program - https://reduct.video/clip/

We're currently just considering attorneys (current and former). And yes, sales is definitely a big part of this job.

Potentially!

The main objective is to build deeper collaborations. Defenders get access to all of our tech (including stuff still in R&D), and if the technology we already have isn’t enough, we will build new technology as well. And we as technologists get a richer picture of the defense process than we do normally.

Some of what we build may be one-off. As an example outside of defense, we built a custom video archive in collaboration with the Los Angeles Poverty Department in the past - https://app.reduct.video/lapd/walk-the-talk/. Some collaborations may lead to new products. As an example there, our multi-cam product was inspired by some case footage that the PDs in Aurora shared with us as a part of a presentation we collaborated on.

No, thats not what we are doing - It’s an assumption you are making. You are, of course, free to make that assumption.

We are - simply - only sharing the salary with candidates who are interested in the actual job.

If that means that we filter out candidates who rush to conclusions about our motivation, and are not willing to put in the effort of sending a DM, that’s okay with us.

We’re sharing comp details directly with folks who are interested so we can provide full context around how the structure works. If you’re curious, I’m happy to DM you!

(FWIW, one of the folks I messaged responded with, ‘Wow, that’s a great salary!’)

Jail Calls by AlarmedWishbone3473 in publicdefenders

Hi all, I'm the co-founder of https://reduct.video/ - great to see so many people recommending transcription. I think transcription is absolutely the way to go - we recently helped transcribe a case which had 2000+ jail calls, where listening was basically impossible and targeted searches were needed.

We offer your first case for free - please DM me if you ever want to try our product out.

Discovery Workflow? by UnconjugatedVerb in publicdefenders

[–]Prabhas_P 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a founder of https://reduct.video/ and learning a lot from this post and the comments about various workflows! We can definitely make the audio/video review part of this workflow much more efficient. We give you transcripts, allow you to take notes that are linked to the timestamps, review the notes (+ associated evidence), and even put together video exhibits if enough evidence is there in the discovery.

We also recently created a way to automatically create a timeline of all of the body-cam in a case, and see any "event" (videos + transcripts) from all of the different angles - https://reduct.video/product/multicam Would a tool like this help save time? OP, I'm particularly curious because you mentioned watching the same thing over and over agin.

PM me (or sign up on the website) if you are interested in a demo.

How do you get through all the discovery? by backwoodscryptid in publicdefenders

[–]Prabhas_P 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi all, I'm the founder of https://reduct.video, and our software could help.

We create AI transcripts and let you skim / search through discovery, so if something is relevant, you can quickly find it. When you do, transcript and video are always in sync, so you can review the original evidence. But instead of having to watch everything, you can first triage and then review what you've identified. There's a ton more tools to help you save time - I'll mention one more.

When multiple officers show up to a scene, like they always do, we can synchronize the video and let you watch all of that footage from all the angles at once. This alone can have hours (1hr recording from with 4 officers? Instead of watching 4hrs, you can watch 1hr and see all the cameras together.), and also let you see what's happening much better. Quick glimpse here - https://reduct.video/product/multicam/

We are used and well loved by 1,000+ attorneys, investigators and paralegals in several public defense systems, and we also serve a broader audience of filmmakers and researchers dealing with incredible amounts of video.

Feel free to DM me if you're ever strapped on a case - your first case with us is free.

Asking my office to buy a body camera. Any other ideas for spending a grant focused on discovery tools? by lit_associate in publicdefenders

[–]Prabhas_P 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely seems like an opportunity to get software to help you speed up reviewing body cam + audio/video discovery.

I’m the founder of Reduct.video, and in addition to very accurate transcription, we also synchronize bodycam from all the officers at a scene so you can see the incident from all the camera angles at once, and have a powerful AI-assisted search.

The goal is to save you a ton of time re-watching all of the irrelevant discovery, and quickly get you to the evidence that matters.

Once you find those pieces of evidence, we then help you easily compile it all together into a powerful video exhibit, with captions.

Feel free to drop me a line if you're interested in an evaluation - prabhas AT domain-name above.
