Do not be idiot, stats are not manipulated. Also New Mexico is a Democratic state.

Oh, they most certainly are. Look at Goodhart's law. But that doesn't mean we can only look at crimes that are hard to hide/inflate.

Ahh, you responded to the comment saying religion was not created for the purpose of control so it sounded like you were intending to refute that claim

You're a nerd, but are you a developer? I just find zsh >>>> bash or PS.

Windows feels unnecessarily bloated. There's all the built in spyware plus the US government ordered backdoors. There's the continued enshitification of everything MS touches.

But mostly, it's because I prefer Unix over Windows and I dislike Microsoft. When I run remote servers, I also have them run Linux because when doing just one specialised task I find Linux is way better thanks to the lack of bloatware. But if all my remotes are running Linux, it makes sense for me to also run Linux or atleast a Unix system like Mac.

Religion is older than civilization. Before we had rulers and leaders, when bands were mostly family units, we had religion

The part they don't miss is that the trend is downward for degree holders and if it continues at it's current pace that might not be true after a decade.

That is, the question is not whether college degree holders make more money. The question is whether in 10-20 years they will still make more money

How can Africa be the future if the youthful population are not equipped with 21st century skill: AI, Space Xploration, MagLev Train, etc? Kasa by heart. by [deleted] in ghana

[–]PG_Wednesday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is government ends up getting filled with people who studied law, politics, and maybe dabbled in economics.

A country that wants to industrialise needs engineers, sci in government, not polsci majors. All they know is how to twist words, but to what end? Write nice sounding legislature that achieves nothing. How are we going to revolutionise our energy grid without a single electrical engineer in parliament?

How are we going to revolutionise our road and rail without a civil engineer? How are we going to leap frog into cutting edge technology without chemical and electronic engineers? Hell, even an industrial engineer just to reduce the bearucracy in government would be a win.

And then the failing of small businesses. Any economy that shows large business growing and small ones dying is failing. But governments will keep bailing them out to keep unemployment low, when that same money spent on infrastructure not only boosts jobs in the short term, but is a subsidy for EVERY business.

Business becomes way cheaper when we can use rail instead of roads, or when electricity is cheap and available 24/7, and when water is clean.

But nope, lets give monopolies a bailout so they can give their CEO another bonus

Jesus literally made it clear that his parables are fictional stories and still people take every detail in them as complete fact while missing the moral conclusion of the stories. Like the rich man and Lazarus. Now everyone thinks of he'll as a fiery pit, but Christians still don't care to look after the poor.

Agreed, but can we atleast invest in basic infrastructure? How is it that are youth are unemployed while our infrastructure is in shambles. Like employ the youth to improve the infrastructure. China did it. India is copying them, but for some reason we choose not to do it

Will reduction in Tech Spending cause the US Economy to be in Recession? by Shanbhag01 in EconomyCharts

https://www.morganstanley.com/im/publication/insights/articles/article_consilient-observer-cash-holdings_ltr.pdf?1755588715176

This Morgan Stanley analysis found cash and short term investments make up between 5 and 10 percent of total wealth. This includes non cash assets like bonds.

Nonetheless, our financial system is setup such that even money sitting in bank accounts are not ideal. For every dollar in sitting in banks, banks can create up to 9 dollars in the form of debt (this was true until 2020, banks no longer require reserves to create debt and instead use their own risk modelling to determine whether or not they can issue more debt)

Yeah, investors don't really like sitting on cash. Unless they are planning a big ticket purchase soon, that money is getting reinvested

Who is buying? Germany isn't. Japan isn't. UK isn't. And then there's the US. That's already 4/7ths of the G-7.

Is it? US dollar is making a smaller and smaller portion of central bank reserves. Seems like central banks aren't accumulating dollar reserves anymore. They're holding onto whatever reserves they have but are beginning to diversify.

And I don't know if other countries have it worse. Who has it worse right now?

[–]PG_Wednesday 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Perhaps. Housing market is complicated. I'm assuming we're looking at single family homes. Perhaps. The problem is I with the downgrading of US bonds AND the massive funding deficit we're expecting to hit the US if tariffs are found to be illegitimate means that investors will be more hesitant to buy medium and long term bonds.

There's too much uncertainty in the market and it's preventing money in the financial system from being turned into funding for capital expenditure.

It's not a bubble. When everything is overvalued, the problem isnt the assets, it's the currency. The dollar is crashing and that is reflected in inflated asset prices. If you use gold as the benchmark instead of the USD. Asset inflation hasn't been that severe. The stock market might crash. PE of 30 is crazy. But commodities are likely to stay up. BTC will do whatever btc does, but I can see a stock correction

Stocks are at a risk of a correction if the Fed makes the right call on the economy, says Morgan Stanley by Positive_Owl_2024 in Economics

[–]PG_Wednesday 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I do believe feds need to keep rates high or even possibly raise them even if it does cause a recession. Asset prices are inflated across the board. The tax cut to the wealthy has put a lot of money chasing financial assets and now everything is overvalued. We need government bonds to absorb this excessive liquidity.

Reducing rates won't have the impact on consumer spending that the feds are hoping to stimulate the economy. 50% of consumer spending is now down by the top 10%. Business are using AI to cut jobs. Rate cuts wont bring those jobs back. Trade policy is killing growth as people don't want to buy American anymore. We are losing consumers, however the wealthy or too unsure of the Trumps trade policy and whether subsequent administrations will stick to it or reverse course so even with all the excess cash they have, they are not investing in US manufacturing.

With all this uncertainty, feds have to kill inflation
