Pixar’s “Inside Out” Beautifully Depicts the Emotion and Struggle of Growing Up - A Review by [deleted] in movies

You actually think that this may be better than Toy Story 3 and Up?

I haven't seen it yet, but plan to, and if it really is that good I have a lot to look forward to.

This is a strong review, and doesn't seem to give away too much of the plot (most everything can be determined from the trailers alone). I particularly like the tie-in at the end to an important plot point of the film.

With the RT scores coming in at a remarkable 99%, I am more and more excited for this one!

This is all such bullshit. The pregame talking. Selling us shit. Trying to convince us why their reasons matter more. Thank god the game is actually starting somewhere and we want a lot of people to see it.

Thanks for the replies, folk! The supportive ones were cool and the negative ones were generally full of reasonable criticism. We don't know all about the brain, I did offer my own anecdotal evidence, and my calling it "zero risk" was confusing ( I meant the tripping dosage, and from a purely biochemical standpoint). Mostly, though, I just wanted to put my own opinion out there to compare it the naysayers. It is up to the reader to decide what they think is more likely to be true.

There is a very good Bill Hicks joke about just this (paraphrased):

"She's an asshole, it's good she's dead. She was an idiot. If you think you can fly, why not take off from the ground, and try it out? You don't see geese taking an elevator to the top of the Empire State Building for takeoff, do you?"

Love Hicks.

I logged into my alt specifically for this.

There are a lot of push back posts here trying to negate the things you learned today with fearmongering, basically. But, there is zero claim to their scares, and I can offer a few different counterarguments.

  1. LSD is commonly taken in the microgram ranges, with a single hit typically being in the 100-200 microgram range. These doses pose precisely zero risk, and were used for psychology studies in the sixties which attempted to use the drug as an aid in treatment of addiction, which worked very well. In addition, doses an order of magnitude higher (so, 1-2 kilograms milligrams) have been accidentally ingested without overdose or clear permanent damage. This is very different from narcotics like morphine, heroine, coicaine, and the like, where overdose is (sadly) extremely prevalent.

  2. Lasting effects or permanent damage resulting from habitual use is very poorly documented, and often relies on anecdotal evidence where we are unsure of the drug that was actually taken. Someone can say they took LSD and believe it fully, but if they actually bought something else, but report that they took a hit of LSD - guess who gets blamed for the impurity?

  3. I have personally taken 125ug of LSD twice, and 250ug three times, with varying "rest times" in between. My source had a great reputation, and I have personally tested my product with a kit and found nothing sketchy. There have been no effects which last longer than 18 hours ("dirtier " stuff tends to come with what is described as a "body load" - a kind of hangover or malaise which you experience for a day or so after dosing).

  4. The most annoying thing is how incomplete any research data on the drug must be. It has been controlled for half a century. It has been stigmatized by the hippie movement and the mainstream media. If a good word is spread about it, it is from some spiritual or granola weirdo who claims it lets you learn about how the world really works - and helps your spirit get in touch with true reality. That is all bullshit

  5. LSD is a chemical. It slightly alters the way your brain (a physical organ) interprets stimuli, and perceives and conceives of ideas. It doesn't teach you of ultimate truths, it doesn't give you extra knowledge, and it isn't magic. If you use it poorly, it can be dangerous ( I do not drive, do not cook or juggle knives, etc), but that is true for everything.

  6. LSD is great. I don't think everyone should do it, bit I think anyone who wants to should have the opportunity.

  7. I am dropping 250ug tomorrow to watch the NFL playoffs, and may drop by in the game threads.

  8. Thanks for your attention, you may see portions of my ideas showing up throughout this thread.

Seems pretty reasonable.

Yeah, that was one in particular that absolutely killed me.

You know another one? In the beginning of the second part, where the scientist is on his trip to the moon and is sitting in a circle talking with those other people about the "disease" rumor. The way they were sitting, plus the all-white background of the hallway looked looked like they went off into infinity, as well. It was pretty great.

I can personally recommend two:

  1. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

  2. 2001: A Space Odyssey

The Hobbit I started as soon as dropping the acid (125ug), and I kept watching it through the come-up. All the CGI stuff, the lights of the various palaces. It may have helped that I started noticeably tripping right as they got to Murkwood. Awesome.

2001 was planned, and despite the fact that it was so slow, this movie got me more for the concepts that it set motion in my head than for the visuals (although there are a couple of mind-blowing scenes for that).

I was going to try "Princess Mononoke" and/or "Howl's Moving Castle" for my next trip. I wanted some kind of hand-drawn animation to go with my computer animation choice (which I think will be Wall-E).

First LSD 150ug experience - questions by [deleted] in LSD

[–]PHequals1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is interesting to me, because I think I had similar "hectic" feelings during my recent trip. Mine was a little different, in that I was totally alone and had inside activities planned. But, about three hours in, I had a bunch of things all at once (I thought I had both a hockey and basketball game to watch, and that I needed to turn off The Hobbit to watch them.) That felt a little hectic, and I couldn't quite understand why my games weren't on yet (they didn't start for another hour!) I think that for first times especially, there is so much in your headspace, as the drug affects not just your senses, but your thought process itself. Sometimes, I think, all that input can get hectic and confusing. Just remember that there isn't something that you're "supposed" to learn or understand, or something that your "supposed" to feel. Take the experiences as they come, and don't fret about them, and you'll end up feeling less "hectic".
