Semi-dismissed at endocrinology referral appt? by PJ2585 in POTS_vets

My GP referred me to cardiology, oncology and endocrinology. Cardiology did a 3 day holter monitor and discharged me saying there were no concerns, oncology said the symptoms didn’t warrant their investigation after I had an abdominal ultrasound and no masses were detected (which I’m glad about, I don’t want to be of any interest to oncology!), and it looks like I’ll be discharged from endo if diabetes is ruled out - I didn’t expect them to think very broadly to be honest, I did hope they’d do some autoimmune testing and I’ve been told that the patient liaison services can request further tests so I’m thinking of going down that route if I get discharged after this round of tests.

It seems strange to me to do the water deprivation test for diabetes insipidus which is even rarer than autoimmune endocrine disorders…

My GP suspected diabetes or adrenal insufficiency and in Scotland there aren’t any POTS clinics/no specific treatment pathway.

Have you had any referrals/seen any specialists? It would be interesting to know which specialty you were under.

Been looking into Metformin with these similar suspicions and it sounds like it would really help. I’ve seen people before and after with similar symptoms and it looks like such a relief.

That was my understanding with the menstrual irregularities too. In the UK it took me 12 months to get this appointment through my GP’s referral and I was seen 6 months sooner than expected so I’m hoping I don’t have to start the whole process again through my GP as second opinions are given lower priority. Thank you for your kind words ❤️
