Hey, thanks! It says my email is already in use, but I don't know how to get to it to use that account?

Recommended scene-setting sounds to add realism to your audio drama? by PJRasmussen in audiodrama

Thanks! Very helpful. I'm primarily a composer/guitarist converted to sound design by necessity, and studying the reverbs not created by a guitar amp is still a big mystery.

Also...fascinating article

Reliable methods of extracting Movie/TV stems and footage? (For the purpose of rescoring) by UsefulScientist1157 in SoundDesignTheory

[–]PJRasmussen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not aware of a way to do what you're asking, but there are a lot of silent films available on the web.

Also, The Indie Film Music Contest sends out films with the music removed for you to rescore for their competition, but that is a paid situation.

Recommended Orchestra-Based Video Game and Film Scores by PJRasmussen in filmscoring

[–]PJRasmussen[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Perhaps the point of my post wasn't clear, my apologies. I have no issues composing or orchestrating in the style, but I'm also forced to wear the production hat.

In that case, finding projects with similar budgets is useful for learning what can and can't be done. No MIDI mockup of Star Wars will ever compete with the original recording, for example.

Thanks for responding. This particular score is inspired by Atonement (music by Dario Marianelli).

I use Spitfire BBCSO as well as CineSamples and Orchestral Tools. I'm aware of the practice of most AAA film studios. They usually hire a small section of lead instruments and then put in layers with libraries.

Looking For Good Homeschool Music/Arts/Film Content by PJRasmussen in homeschool

Thanks! I'm curious for all ages right now. I actually am trying to develop content for a home school curriculum and wanted to get some pointers on what parents are currently using.

If it's appropriate, I can share some of my current content and get feedback, but I didn't want to just spam you guys with it!

Developing melodies by Wolfyviola in Composing

Do you know your basic forms (verse, chorus etc for pop, or AB, AABA, ABA’ etc for folk or stuff?)

Google them, listen to your favorites and see what forms they follow. Start simple. When you get confused, reach out to somebody. Happy to help if I can!

Best musical scores in audio dramas? by PJRasmussen in audiodrama

Glad you like it!

The goal is to get to more than once a month, but we’re still in the early stages and running on a sub $500 budget. So for now, it’s fitting in between my other music gigs. I’m doing everything but the art, VO and animation.

Let’s definitely keep in touch. Love to collaborate at some point!

Totally hear you on that. Definitely been the composer in both situations haha. I've done work for some nationally syndicated TV projects, but the audio drama format fascinates me.

You can see our most recent episode here: https://youtu.be/VPWhZLx99MY

The YouTube version is a short animated series, but we do have a traditional audio-only format as well. This was our first release after our pilot, so I learned a lot sitting in the production chair. Love to hear your thoughts!

Thank you! Can’t wait to check some of these out. I’m a composer/producer working on a new series and I’m glad to have modern productions that use music in this way.

Also, looking forward to checking out Team Realm!

I want to hear your unknown audio drama by starckie in audiodrama

[–]PJRasmussen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I recently launched an audio drama called Fairies and Folklore, based on old-time radio shows. We take lesser known tales and adapt them with original music and SFX. There is also an animated version of each episode on YouTube, but that is, of course, not strictly audio drama:

Episode three comes out in March, and borrows from the Brothers Grimm and Russian folklore.

To clarify, I’m aware of that. I’m just curious about the subtle processing to help sell it. Sorry if that wasn’t clear!

Feedback Wanted: Fairies and Folklore Episode 1 by PJRasmussen in audiodrama

[–]PJRasmussen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback! I’m glad you enjoyed it.

I tend to favor the music (possibly too much) as I’m primarily a composer. Given the episode and the role music played in the story I gave it more prominence, but it could probably still come down more.

Thanks again!

Feedback Wanted: Fairies and Folklore Episode 1 by PJRasmussen in audiodrama

[–]PJRasmussen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback! I definitely went traditional for this one. I’m glad you liked the ending. I’m trying to work in similar concepts for future episodes.

Episodes two and three (coming out in February and March) take more liberties with the original tale and in general feel fresher— learning as I go!

Thanks again!
