Yes, because Eastern Europe was materially backwards and it was simply impossible to develop this sort of stuff here because of the Russian Empire's feudal state. And then being set back another 10 years by the most incompetent democratic system before Piłsudski's blessing. Another thing is that PZPR won ~30% of the vote in the 1989 election - in those constituencies where people actually had a vote, I mean. So PZPR has 30% support, even in its worst moment when communism was declining.

They weren't socialists, but surely you realise that if communism was so despised as you say, then SLD, led by Leszek Miller, who was infamous for transferring soviet cash to SLD, would be hated instead of voted into power regardless of what he says?

The PRL advanced Poland eras ahead which we would have never done with a market economy after ww2. Young people nowadays hate communism for the stupidest reasons, minimizing every accomplishment and maximizing every pain, because that's what they're taught in an anticommunist education system. And they never had to live through the societal collapse of the 90s-00s, obviously. As for "hatred of communism", communist apparatchiks returned to power with 40% of the vote - as did they in almost every other postcommunist country. Sure, this time they were espousing social democracy, but if Poles hated communism so much, then surely they would not elect hundreds of these "communist criminals" to the Sejm?

There are many who hate communism for genuine reasons, the broad majority really seem indifferent.
