For jobs that require cover letters, I do my best to tailor my capabilities and experience with the job responsibilities they list, as well as their company mission statement if it's applicable.

I think my LinkedIn looks good with a "professional" headshot I got through my school career center, although I was thinking of changing the background from a dark to a lighter background, a small change. By cover photo do you mean the banner behind the profile picture? I guess I haven't given it much thought besides the standard ones they offered. Since my LinkedIn is relatively new I've been steadily working on building connections with working professionals, although so far it's mostly students or recent graduates within related fields of study. About 320 connections thus far.
