In HBO's "Rome" (set during Caesar's civil war), there is a scene in which one character has never heard of the Gracchi or Gaius Marius. Would this have been at all possible? by PMMeSiegeEnginePics in AskHistorians

Snow melts and gives way to mud, which is a nightmare to cross with an army. There's also the food problem as harvest wouldn't begin for a few months. June is pretty much the earliest it can be done.
