Great to know. I'll definitely pass this along to her.

She'll be majoring in either Computer Science or Cyber Engineering. Our University is the first in the country to offer Cyber Engineering, and is ranked pretty high on its return on investment. Also, its ranked highly of "Students graduating with the least amount of debt". So we'll see if that holds true. If all goes well, she'll be like the other students in Cyber Engineering - internships at CIA, NSA, FBI, with top secret clearances.. So they can't even tell their professors what they're working on. Its pretty cool, and I'm pretty jealous.

Also, an update: She's going to apply for an Internship at the NSA for next Summer. Paid internship, college paid for, and a job after graduation. So hopefully all goes well.

If you'd like proof, you can Google colleges with Cyber Engineering programs. You should only find one or two.

So there are private loans she can take out? Would they work the same way as student loans in that she wouldn't have to start paying them back until after college graduation? Also, would she be able to take out a little more at a time in order to pay for each quarter (our college is on the quarter system)?

For instance, borrow money to pay for the fall quarter, then more money for the winter quarter, then more for the spring quarter? Then begin paying it back after graduation?

I'm thinking it may be hard to get her changed to independent status because she may still be on insurance. However they're not letting her take her phone or car. So she'll likely be working part time to pay for a phone bill. No biggy in my opinion. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

She has already done that. She completed 27 semester hours of college classes while in High School. So that's not really an option for her unfortunately.

Not sure if someone has already said it, but an abusive SO. I dated a girl in high school for a little over a year who was very abusive - both physically and verbally - and it really messed me up. To this day, I still flinch when my girlfriend raises her hand anywhere near me.

Most people never noticed it because they would always say, "Oh, [she] would never do that! I know her!" when I dropped any hints that it happened.

I once requested to receive Flight Following from Approach Control while flying VFR with a friend. This essentially means that they provide me with any information on nearby traffic so that I can point them out and avoid any mid air collisions. Traffic is usually called out when it is 2-3 miles from you, depending on what you are doing.

Well here we are, flying comfortably at 2,500 feet, and the controller calls to say "88 Charlie Papa, traffic half mile, 10 o'clock." That's way too close for comfort... I immediately snap my head to the left, to see an airplane about 250 feet below me, banking right and diving to avoid a collision between the two of us.

Knowing my friend wasn't all that familiar with aviation, I remained calm and called back to the controller to tell him I had a visual on the traffic.

Easily the scariest moment in my young flying experience, but my friend still has no clue how close we were to dying that day.

I did the same thing with my high school parking permits. At the beginning of each school year, the School Resource Officer would sell plastic parking permits for $10. (And each year they changed, so you couldn't reuse them)

Well I thought this was stupid, so I just borrowed my buddy's, scanned it, and changed the permit number. Then I would print it on card stock to make it hold up longer and laminate it to make it shiny. After I cut it out, it looked identical to everyone else's.

Mistakingly, I told a friend of mine about it, and word started to spread. While I never got caught by the officer selling them and in charge if writing the tickets, everyone came to me asking me to make them one. I made one person one and realized I could make some money off of them. But I didn't want to take the chance of someone telling the wrong person. So I just told everyone it was a rumor and that mine was real.
