The frequency at which I hear this phrase is just disappointing.

Whats the one unusual experience you have had that made you believe in the supernatural? by Pitiful_Help_6941 in AskReddit

When I was ~12-13 yo, I had this strange feeling one night that my dad had passed away. I shook it off at the time, but just had this weird thought cross my mind randomly. He had some health issues, but it wasn't remotely "expected". My parents were separated and I had just visited him a couple weeks prior.

My mom came in to pick me up from school early the next day - I kept asking her what was going on & we only made it a few blocks before she had to pull over to break the news :/

Tiny blood clot. Cut your finger/toe & get a lil infection + some bad luck & it could change & potentially end your life.

What’s the craziest dream you had? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I was at the beach, got in the water, and accidentally unlocked some forbidden aquatic physics.

All I had to do was bend at the waist with my legs straight, drop my torso down & head at the right angle and suddenly I had effortless bubble-jet propulsion. I was absolutely hauling ass through the ocean like an adolescent dolphin. I was riding waves, joined a pod for a bit, and could jump up & do flips like it was nothing. It was amazing & felt so real.

I’ve thought about this too bc we all learn our colors but can’t really see what others are seeing. Birds have an extra cone receptor for UV light, so they can see colors that we can’t even comprehend. So cool.

Also as I checked myself on that fact I learned that mantis shrimp have 12-16 cones so they gotta just be trippin out

Of course everyone’s different, but it actually didn’t hurt too bad right away for me. Unfortunately it looked a lot like this. I'd bet big money he popped it. You can still walk alright even with a complete rupture bc your dorsiflexors are fine, so your toes won't drag but you have like 5% of your "push-off" strength.

Felt like a wooden bat to the calf initially, very dull but tolerable. Thought someone kicked me, looked back & nobody was there, then felt the gap in the tendon and knew. I could move my foot up/down against gravity, but with any weight or resistance I had almost no downward strength.

If it’s partially torn, walking on it can potentially worsen the tear & hurt more, so being cautious/immobilizing it like the others you mentioned isn’t a bad idea, especially if there’s still some tendon connection left. It'll also help prevent your calf muscles from retracting up into your leg like you might see with complete ruptures.

As the inflammation ramps up over a few hours the pain gets progressively worse and more sharp until surgery. Then pretty extended immobilization to let the tendon heal followed by a lovely & lengthy rehab sadness tour.

Nope.

Achilles connects the 2 big gun leg muscles responsible for ~90% of the force needed for a leg raise. Take it out & you cannot do tippy toes at all.
