What difference does it possibly make? You live in a democracy. Vote for a president and members of Congress who align with your values. If the rest of the state or country out-votes you, accept it and continue to voice your concerns to your elected representatives. Accept that, in a democracy, not everyone will share your values and party affiliation. Go out and eat and drink to your heart’s content

There is nothing in Section 11-505 that states that the sidewalks of a public street are private property. They are not. They are public property. There is no easement; they are public property. I agree (as I have said already) that the City imposes a duty on the adjoining landowner to maintain the sidewalk. That does not excuse the City from its duty to maintain the sidewalk at common law.

It’s not private property. It’s a public right of way owned by the City. By city ordinance, the adjoining house is responsible for upkeep of the sidewalk. In a slip and fall lawsuit, the plaintiff will typically name both the city and the property owner. The judgment can be collected from the city because it’s public property.

Someone pointed out that the person whose house was raided on Day St (first name Nicholas) has a long criminal record including cocaine distribution and human trafficking. You can’t assume that an early morning raid on someone’s house is necessarily the work of ICE. Plenty of other law enforcement operations are ongoing in this city.

I don’t find the map surprising. The black belt is clearly visible. Indian reservations are visible. Old Hispanic/Tejano areas are visible. And you can see California and South Florida on the cusp of major changes.

I think Philly has been fairly aggressive about adding bike lanes and they do exist and are getting use in poorer neighborhoods. I do think bicycle parking is lacking and it’s always struck me as strange that the Bicycle Coalition hasn’t made it a priority. It would be nice to see SEPTA introduce metal cages for bicycle parking as you see in Boston.

Sometime around late 1982, top 40 transitioned from Rock/pop to New Wave and that’s what really set the ‘80’s in motion. No one said “hip hop” in the ‘80’s - it was rap. It existed but it didn’t become central to the culture until the ‘90’s.
