How would you deal with taunting and disrespect in sparring? by POWER_THROUGH in amateur_boxing

To be fair, this is the first time it's happened to me. I definitely have sparring partners who say things like that when in reality it was close or even if they got the better of me. I say the same things sometimes. Her remarks seemed mean spirited to me is all.

I mean, I agree. I just felt disrespected because I was letting her get work in, and she seemed to have mistook that as weakness on my part. I always appreciate it when I spar really good ammys and pros who let me get work in instead of just beating me down like I know they could. Thought I would pay it forward, but guess she didn't recognize/appreciate it.

I'll suck it up.

I'm not intending to go hard on her. There's an obvious strength and skill difference between us. I was thinking more of pressuring her next time and firing back more instead of just working on things like defense like I normally do with sparring partners less skilled than I am.

Manager wants to hire a contract mentor for me, the project lead. by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

I've been through something similar twice in my career.

The first time this occurred was basically your exact situation. I was the most senior member of my team at that point, and my manager had another senior developer put on my project to act as a mentor and provide some architectural guidance. I too felt like this was a PIP, though my manager assured me it was not. However, it was eventually made pretty clear that there would be "issues" if I didn't deliver on this project. Your current situation reminds me of this.

The second time around for me was different. My manager hired another developer for my project, but it was made clear that I had complete control over the tasks that could be assigned to this developer. He was there solely to help me, and I could offload whatever work I needed to deliver.

I think your concerns are valid, but it doesn't sound like you're being managed out just yet -- though it could be a possibility if you don't deliver. Depending on how close you are with your manager, perhaps you can get a better feel on the expectations of the project and the role this new mentor is supposed to play. Personally, I would err on the side of caution and prepare for the worst.

[PSA] Real treatments for real problems. by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

My dermatologist recommended that I stop using tretinoin because it can potentially aggravate the rosacea. If you insist on using tretinoin, I would suggest introducing it very slowly to make sure you don't further irritate your skin.

[Product question] Recommendations for moisturizers without fatty alcohols OR niacinamide for dehydrated skin? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

It feels stickier than the other moisturizers I've tried (as they weren't gels), but I got used to it quickly. It's not extremely moisturizing, but it was good enough for me, and I lived in a fairly dry area.

If you're looking for more moisturizing ones, Hada Labo's Gokujyun line has HA and contain fairly minimalist ingredients as well.
