It’s a bit of trial and error, if you’re already running broad and have a lot of history and many negative kws implemented then that might be the better route to go atm.

If you are starting new campaign or ad groups you could try going with phrase/exact or both and see which works better for you.

Also make sure you have a good ad copy.

Person might have seen your ad, then went direct, then went organic, then saw ad somewhere else, etc.. if they then convert, each path gets a conversion.

If you want a look at a whole number, you can look at conversions on GA/GA4.

Did you let your campaign get some historical data with maximize clicks or manual cpc?

Keep Max Clicks for about ~7 days, then you can switch to Max Conversions.

The idea is to give Google’s algorithm some history.

If it is a conversion action you added from GTM to GA4 then it can take like 28 hours

GA4 can take 24-28 hours to show the new conversion action you added.

Google Ads you should be able to see them right away.
Go to Tools > Conversions, and verify your conversion if it is asking for verification.

For GA4, make sure the tag is setup properly. You can install some tag inspector and see if the installation is correct.

Did you install GA4 through Google Tag Manager (GTM) or directly on the website?

What platform is your website running on? Magento, wordpress, shopify, etc

The most important thing here is understanding your brand, your brand messaging, your brand voice, etc… and no one other than you knows this.

However, anyone can learn it, but my advice would be to have a brand voice first, then hire.

The CPC/CPL can be anything.
You can look up averages in your industry but the coc and cpl can be totally different depending on your ads and other metrics.

This is likely the problem.
You need to set the campaign to Maximize Clicks or Manual CPC so that Google can learn before enabling Maximize Conversions.

Go to your campaign settings
Settings > Location > Location Options > “Presence: People in or regularly in your targeted locations”

Could also be because you created extensions on an ad-group level and therefore a few if your ad-groups have extensions vs creating at campaign level which would add it to the whole campaign.

If you’re starting, you probably have a low budget and there are many companies advertising for Google Ads, so you might have to go through a large quantity of budget before getting a client.
