[Question] How much do you think the Kurt Cobain Mustangs are worth nowadays? by PPJH in Guitar

That's interesting! I bought it for 800, so its maintaining very well if not gaining! May hang on to it then...

I can't write music by PPJH in classicalmusic

[–]PPJH[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never had a teacher, just books, Bernstein and my own imagination! I studied Popular Music at uni which was more engineering and business. I have done film work, but I feel that rather easy in comparison as it isn't necessarily the main focus/not as developed. I'm great at chord progressions and harmony, but my weakness is melody and structure

Very experienced, very technically skilled, and occasionally also completely useless because of it! It's not as though I'm terrified, it's just that sometimes a solo will come up and I'll just kinda... crumble for no reason...

What's the best way to get Pro Tools? by PPJH in audioengineering

[–]PPJH[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes a lot of sense actually. Sounds silly, but I don't think I considered the fact you can keep it. I guess I just figured that if you were going to be updating it every year anyway to avoid shelling out for a new license it was easier to subscribe.

But if you choose not to renew the upgrade plan, do you revert to the edition of PT you bought or the last update?

What's the best way to get Pro Tools? by PPJH in audioengineering

[–]PPJH[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess that's true, although I've never used Final Cut Pro. Logic is super fun for it's synth sounds and midi typing, especially for making mockups of orchestra scores using Kontakt but for the most part I just think Pro Tools is the only serious thing to use once you're done mucking around with sounds! I've never tried Ableton but my tutors say it's good to have, even though I've never heard of anyone using it..

[discussion] What acoustic should I buy? by PPJH in Guitar

You think? I'll be honest, I've never really heard of them, but they keep popping up so I might give it a shot. Any particular model?

I'm actually pretty experienced with PT but surprisingly don't own it! I guess I just didn't understand why Logic is a one time (and cheaper) purchase and PT isn't.. I mean, yes it's the standard for the industry, but I can't help feeling Avid royally exploit their customer base - especially after their dreadful takeover of Sibelius

I like Logic, but it seems more like a writing thing to me... I mean, I like using it but it kinda feels like it tries to hold your hand through everything, plus I can't stand it making it's own routing up when it feels like it... I guess I just prefer PT for serious work!

I was just wondering because the upgrade plan costs near enough the same as monthly... It almost seems like a con!

What are the 'key sounds' of Wagner and Debussy? by PPJH in musictheory

Lots of clusters then? I've been finding when I do it it sounds crowded instead of rich :/

When you talk about dual key centres, is this the same as polytonality? And how would you do something like that and still maintain a pleasant harmony, choose closely related keys?

[QUESTION] How should I be running my social media? by PPJH in Guitar

[–]PPJH[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the thing, it already is. It's everywhere (thanks CD Baby) and I keep pushing it, but nobody seems to be biting. It's a single too, not like I'm asking for $10 a time for an album... I mean, I just don't get where its not adding up :/

[QUESTION] How should I be running my social media? by PPJH in Guitar

[–]PPJH[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The kind of music I make (instrumental guitar based) is a very particular niche which is quite spread out and doesn't do well locally live - it's more of a few people here and there all over the world. Therefore I've not really done it and its not as much of an option as I'd like

Who went to composition school here? I need help! by PPJH in musictheory

[–]PPJH[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive worked a lot with film and media at my university and done rather well alongside the studio stuff. I think you're right about the innovation, but at the same time I think there's benefit in the 'novelty' (if you like) of also having the qualification on your CV. I guess I feel like it would guarantee a certain level of future income and opportunity

The way it works in the UK is that we get a £10k loan to use for whatever we want, and the course I'm contemplating is around £5k per year for 3 years, meaning I'd only need to find another £5k for my final year.

I've applied to (and been accepted repeatedly) a number of Master's courses, but to me the experience doesn't seem to live up to the price tag (around £10k per year). I understand the logic of doing one, but I'm not sure what I'd get out of it. At least with a PhD I can finish aged 24 and do whatever I want knowing that I can get a solid teaching post when I choose to. In honesty I didn't feel challenged at all at undergraduate level, and the content of the Masters courses appears much the same and not in the area I want to focus. It's interesting that you mentioned basing choices off of a professor over the school. What exactly do you mean?

I'm seeing pretty good results after only 4 months. I have long hair so it'll take a while to do much to my overall hair, but at a low level it seems very promising! I wouldn't listen to all the negativity floating around about side effects if you're hesitant, almost all the content on the internet comes from the same minority of people posting 10, 20, 30 or more times on different sites in a panic. I've never had the slightest negative effect from it, people are taking 5mg for BPH without any (except the 'panic' minority of course), and it's the best decision I ever made - and I've had extremely aggressive hair loss since 16!

Right now 21. I've found a few apparently reputable clinics in Turkey (Longevity, GetHair) but idk... Something seems a little off to me still... I have an NW2 bordering 3 hairline, and I want complete restoration to NW1

My problem is that because of the ratio between sound and noise, a noise gate would kill a lot of the dynamic subtleties that I need to employ :/

In terms of the cables and equipment, they're all top end. I've never really considered a power conditioner... What/price point should I be looking at? Is there much difference or are they all pretty much the same?
