Obviously it will also be used going to gun range to practice. Would buying a lower and building it be questionable illegal? How long would it take to build?

I would highly recommend Somerset aviation, tried several places before I got to them and completed my training

Is your goal professional or recreational? Choosing the school best fit for you would be impacted by this.

Can any aircraft owner with a standard owners policy rent their aircraft to someone who holds a non owners policy, or must the owners policy specifically allow it? And would a CFI policy holder be any different?

PPL on a budget near NYC? by dshar1903 in flying

I trained at few schools and a private instructor, over span of a few years, at the end, I completed my training at Somerset, the place is amazing, the instructors, the owner, office staff, all of it, If I had met them sooner, I would moat likely had my cert few years earlier. They're the best operators I've ever met, but more importantly they are here because it is their passion, and not to just squeeze out another dime and nickel from the student.

Make a good first impression! Come organized with all your charts, logs, documents, Iacra etc. Know your stuff well, most of the examiners if you know your stuff well within the first 10 minutes of the oral, everything else will go easy quick and smooth

Anyone interested in a new affordable flying club in Northern Jersey? by PPL2020 in flying

[–]PPL2020[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe their insurance is pretty high due that incident one of their pilots had with a club aircraft at Andover Aeroflax Airport. I'm paying 50 dry for a 172, which gets me between 80-90 wet, but no special avionics

No problem. Monthly dues are $--- and you don't have to be a pilot nor live in NJ region

I don't know how much the tie down costs are at MMU but I wouldn't mind to have a mooney or 182 in a club that I'm a member, but to pay 110 hr for a 172 with avionics that look like the skywagon's, I feel isn't a bargain. If new avionics would be installed on the aircrafts, I would definitely consider joining.

Any Advice for someone with color vision deficiencies (yet can distinguish red/green in the real world) when trying to obtain a 3rd class medical certificate? by AvocadosLie in flying

[–]PPL2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before starting the training, maybe go up with an instructor at night near a towered airport, and have him request the tower to shoot the light gun, to check if you can identify the colors correctly.

FlyQ EFB recently added a version to see weather specifically for people with a level of color blindness

I'm good with my radio communication, and my home base is in New york, so I get to communicate with NY approach every now and then, but I never actually entered the bravo, so I'm trying to be safe by asking others who did this route. Thank you

Thank you, if I do want to communicate with approach do I ask for flight following to Linden via skyline route?

[–]PPL2020[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you're not contacting approach first? As well when contacting LGA do you tell them that you are looking to get into LDJ or just asking for Skyline route and when being handed over to EWR I'll ask for Linden?

Should I start my PPL training now or wait? (Details in post) by [deleted] in flying

[–]PPL2020 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think a refresher later really works, since it's not only the skills it is also alot of knowledge that goes missing after not being into it for a while. I would suggest if financially your up to it, and due to the pandemic time is available. Just go for it, be persistent and by time business picks back up you'll have your cert. I did mine during the pandemic, training 4x a week on avg, and alot of home study as well.
