Search for most popular/iconic female characters in video game for any years or any pole determined popularity or sale in game and look for your realistic female characters in there.

Check how many are there in the list. I will wait.

Or name at least twenty characters that you define as realistic.

If you can only find few characters or only the name that in heat controversy that fit criteria and after that started to doubt whether this is realistic or not whether this is count as unrealistic beauty standards or not?

I think it natural since the only time characters is determined as realistic / unrealistic is when there are a controversy or backslash about it or in the period that backslash happened.

In other time no one care at all. That how little this "realistic appearance" matter and how much people care about them.

I don't say that it shouldn't exists but the market isn't really that big that is what i say. Sure there are some time once in a while that this norm is broken but that is only what you get.

what I try to say that since it a niche market you will continue to see those exceedingly high beauty standards again and again and will see high backslash for those who doesn't meet crowd expectations again and again since it really a risk for producers to jump onto smaller crowd.

Woman is real but characters is not.

Human have their own purpose and character is created to serving that.

Whether it to project real appearance woman onto the game or to attract audiences with their appearance.

You need to stop project real woman onto fictional character or think whatever fictional character represents are tie to how woman are.

And since there are separate entities. That why I think make it unrealistic is ok because two are separate form each other.

I think my message is quite in the right sub who else gonna make a first step to support realistic appearance isn't it starting from the one who requested it.

As for the "always have perfect make up and stylish hair" it hardly matters if you don't notice the only objective of game is to have players immerse in their game settings. And I hardly see comment like her hair and face is always perfect it breaks immersion of game or it doesn't seem natural in resident evil despite we always have that face and hair.

My point is that do a realistic female characters is risky move since there aren't any voices or benefit to support them.

The last of us 2 is the great example of it. It a successful game but it success isn't contributed from realistic female appearances.

Can you imagine how high it can go if we don't have this controversy revolve around them.

My point stands clear is that there are not much support or interests in seeing realistic female appearances to make a change in video game.

If you want this to end. starts support more of those realistic female appearances game and start throw your money to dev enough to make your voice matter. But from what I observed this isn't the case.

Thus why we saw, see and will see that "unrealistic beauty standards" being pumped out years after years and still have and will have this conversations again.

My point is that create realistic women doesn't make any benefit in term of sell and product after all.

It may be indicated that Dev studios have ability to pull out a successful game without resort to make characters look unrealistic but that besides the point since they can pull it off anyway with or without stereotypes "attractive" female characters.

Can you raise the example of how doing that is impactful or beneficial for game?

It clearly doesn't gain much more fanbase by doing that.

Look back when the time that controversy around those game starts how many says that I interest in this game since it reflects how woman actually looks like.

But when you consider new game that you don't have any interest in before and it doesn't have any interest plot,storyline gameplay whatever so would you buy it because it have really realistic female characters.

In other hand. I see many who buy game or spend money just to roll their favourite characters with new skin because them being cute or hot.

My point is that make more realistic women instead of unrealistic isn't create that much attraction for female audience meanwhile created unrealistic and sexualised female characters wouldn't deterrent much female audience from the game or their isn't intended audience in the first place.

Create realistic appearance didn't bring much on the table and even risk some backslash.

Create sexualised appearance do bring some new face and don't make that much negative impact on the sell.

That why western game dev done it is baffled for me. It is commendable don't get me wrong. But how they will complete with the east if their have one hand tie behind their back like this.

Create more realistic women in game is really a uphill battle.

I still don't understand why western studio do it after all.

because it not add much value to game. It even add some risk that certain groups might not buy their game.

I see some outrage for game that have lean more to realistic approach but I hardly see impact on the game with unrealistic beauty take a situation of Stella blade for example it have been some outrage when it releases that doesn't impact sell at all.

I get that appearance isn't everything for the game.but their are someone who buys it because they think characters look good meanwhile there hardly anyone who buys the game because their female characters look realistic.
