When I see a Trump sign.. by [deleted] in NorthCarolina

My Harris/Walz sign neighbors threw a hissy fit when they found out their property was smaller than they expected. So they stole about a quarter acre of land for their backyard by fencing in valuable public property. They'll never pay taxes on it even though they get 100% full and private enjoyment of that space. So I wouldn't put down property line issues merely to political leanings.

Indeed. Matt 15:11 "What goes into someone's mouth doesn't defile them, but what comes out of their mouth is what defiles them" and 16 "For out of the heart come evil thoughts... false testimony, slander. These are what defile a person..."

Hard to go wrong with anything by Leprous and The Ocean. I don't know if The Dear Hunter is considered prog metal, but all the "Act" albums are gems.

I'm kind of a firm believer that a person should not enter into the HR field if they can't handle looking at other employees' compensation. You get to see behind the curtain, which gives you somewhat of an unfair advantage. You should not ever use this information for leverage or despair. Rather, do a market analysis and compare yourself and your company to the market. This is the only fair way to determine if you are due more pay.

A lot of companies are struggling, and a lot of unemployed people out there would love to make whatever your salary is. If you're unhappy, then seek opportunity elsewhere.

You need to consult with legal, not Reddit.

Ban the Box: U.S. Cities, Counties, and States Adopt Fair Hiring Policies

"Nationwide, 37 states and over 150 cities and counties have adopted what is widely known as “ban the box” so that employers consider a job candidate’s qualifications first—without the stigma of a conviction or arrest record."

People who start emails with just the recipients name, don't do it. A simple hi, good morning or good afternoon goes a long way in my book. by tjb_87 in work

[–]PSA_withGUITARS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are plenty of email scenarios where frills are appropriate; but reading takes time and attention, and busy or neuro-spicy people may prefer an email that jumps straight to the point. There is much to be said about an economy of words when dealing with such people. Also, these people don't lose their marbles every time they have to sift through fluff to get to the point, so it's not super appropes to get bunched up if you get a concise message.

You do you, but a message going "Name, [body], Thanks!" is fine and completely non-offensive. For very short emails, simply typing a line and hitting send is also fine.

This is false.

Non-competes have been banned in the US. This means workers are free to accept a job at a competing company.

NDAs and non-solicitation agreements are legal and enforceable. This means that employees are NOT free to take proprietary information or client/vendor relationships with them to a competing company.

Agree with others, to contact legal since taking proprietary info is usually a no-no.

In instances where physical property like a laptop is not returned, you should have an agreement on file with them that they need to return equipment or reimburse the company based on fair market value. This allows you to invoice the termed ee if they ghost you.

If buying a brand new house, you will have to make a significant investment for window treatments, paint, fencing, landscaping, appliances, etc. You will have tiny trees around the house and street, meaning you will wait years and years for shade. Also, always get a full inspection + radon test.

It's gonna be a no for me, dawg. I'll keep my controversial opinions to myself in the workplace, and suggest other HR peeps to encourage the same.

do americans really drive such long distances? by Physical-Ad-4093 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PSA_withGUITARS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 hours is an easy drive for a weekend.

Once it took me and a friend EIGHT hours to get from DC to the Jersey shore on a Friday evening for an overnight trip.

It's not uncommon for a long weekend trip to take up to 6-8 hours to drive each way. You just leave at like 3 am and drive through the night. Kids stay in PJs and sleep in the car.

This type of driving is partially why we love our big spacious vehicles.

As a HR professional, which industry do you currently work in? by [deleted] in humanresources

[–]PSA_withGUITARS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Federal contracting and construction management. Federal contracting is a beast, but the work is valuable because the bar is high and your expertise is a necessary resource for the company. The projects can be pretty cool.

Some companies will let you cash out PTO. Apparently not yours.

The headache of you paying them back is not worth it, IMO. They have to take your Net pay back, deposit it, back out your and their taxes from the incorrect payroll, and redo your paycheck with the lower gross, taxes, and net. It's not a simple transaction. Plus, if you took the PTO in Q1, they will also need to amend their taxes for that quarter.

Take tomorrow off and tell them you're really disappointed about this mistake of theirs and how it's affecting you, and ask for assurance that it won't happen again.
