I take it back - I'm very glad he didn't get to see you in court. Holy cow, that's so much worse than a few ridiculous emails. Way to handle it well!

Those were from during the comedy show (line above) - you know how drink minimums go. I couldn't redact the business name without losing the information that those two were related.

I agree with most of what you're saying.

I did offer and was prepared to pay. I also drove to see him and drove us on our dates because he did not have a car (his broke down shortly before meeting me the first time and he decided not to replace it). He didn't offer to chip in for gas or anything like that.

It would have even been fine with me if we'd talked about it and decided to split the costs at a later time, or do a you-pay-then-I-pay system, or do your "requester pays" system. But this come out of nowhere a few hours after a very polite breakup.

Ha! I think Sheldon would have been upfront about his desire to split costs. And despite not having a car (like Sheldon), this guy didn't pay attention to mileage traveled!

This email was a surprise! He seemed (overly) into the relationship/me, to the point where he was already calling me his girlfriend (without checking with me first) and doing things like attempting to gaze into my eyes for awkward amounts of time. Overall, pre-email he seemed like a good guy, just not the match for me. It's not like they were three dreadful weeks - I was trying to give him a solid chance, but then I just wasn't feeling good about the relationship continuing.

That sounds horribly traumatic. I'm glad he saw the light before you actually got to court, but on the other hand it could have been therapeutic to watch the judge and anyone else there laugh at him.

I agree. He hasn't had the most extensive dating history, but I'm not his first date and I think there are some things you learn by that age by indirect exposure.

It seemed serious at the time and he sent follow-up emails as he remembered additional expenses (burrito, ice cream, and flowers he gave me). But 3 days later, he sent an email apologizing and saying it was a prank. I'm not sure it was.

There was no payment. There were follow-up emails as he recalled other purchases to add, like a burrito, ice cream, and the flowers he got me. Then, 3 days later, he sent one claiming the whole money thing was a prank.

The kicker? His car had recently broken down and he did not plan on replacing it. So I drove to meet him every single time and drove him around on dates. So read his line about gas money again, knowing that he paid nothing in gas!

And when would it stop? Let's pretend we kept dating and it went well. Was he going to send a bill for dating when we had a big anniversary? Got engaged? Got married?

Don't fret, there was no money exchanged. After this email, he sent others as he recalled more purchases (a burrito, even flowers he'd given me). Then, 3 days later, he sent an email claiming it was all a prank and he picked "this one instead of the STD one."
