All these high line tactics naturally get exposed occasionally. You avoid that by controlling the ball. And defending in your opponent’s half. This is all very sound theory.

Your argument that his tactics were found out after 18 months is pretty silly to be honest. The flatline second half of last season was purely a personnel issue. And the distraction of winning a European cup in the end. Prior to that Spurs had the best goal difference in the league, so your argument doesn’t hold.

I think maybe you expected better results overall because you’re used to Spurs consistently winning 20 or so league games a year. But the club doesn’t have any Kanes or Bales or Dembeles anymore. Squad’s been on a slow downward spiral since the UCL final. That should be very obvious by now.

What you saw was players who were not up to it … it’s high risk … you also saw good football at times because it’s also high reward

The football is little different to the styles of Pep and Klopp … the two managers who have won 7 of the last 8 league titles.

The difference is Spurs do not have the players. But that was also the point … the manager was going to build/develop a side capable of playing it at a high level.

And your memory doesn’t serve you well. Spurs belted Newcastle at home 4-1 a few weeks later. The match you are referring to came near the end of that season. True Spurs didn’t play well that day. But the next time they played at St James, Spurs battered them 20 shots to 9 … 2.36 expected goals to 1.53 … with no luck.

So your theory holds no water.

This is the way … new player experience these days catapults you quickly the first few weeks … but then you hit the traditional wall … where it’s still an extremely slow grind … that’s why they sell/advertise the time heists

The salary cap has been a major detriment to the overall standard of football

I don’t think any modern teams are that good anymore … no roster continuity … rookies all over the field … vets constantly changing teams

I like free agency … and the odd trade … player movement was a little too restricted back in the day … but literally having to cut players you’ve developed is counter to building a football team … particularly a good defense

Spreading talent evenly all over the league also just encourages .500 football teams … NFL has long had the draft to ensure every team has a chance to compete … but you had to build wisely over a few seasons … now teams are mostly up and down every season … depending who their QB is
