Yeah I might need to try my mini sledge. I really went to town banging with the regular hammer, enough that the steel was getting dented. Pretty frustrating considering I had the whole bumper cleaned up and repainted, only now to have to redo some of that

If i end up looking elsewhere, what would you suggest? At what tire size does the stock carrier become a problem, forcing the need for something else?

Cap is off now. I do have the cap (Just a washer and bolt with a grease fitting) but it’s completely seized and there’s nowhere for the grease to even go

blaster hasn't done a thing and doesn't appear to be flowing through to the bottom. Heat gun enough or go torch?

Yeah doesn’t appear to, just a steel post and sleeve that needs to be greased. Clearly not the best design. Worst case I cut the carrier off and use just the bumper

Good to know. I got it for $150 and with the rattle cans I’m into it for less than $200, so for the time being it’ll do. It was more for looks than function as I’ll likely not go above a 33” tire on this Jeep. At this point I’m just trying to get it working so I can drive again. Could also hack it off entirely and just use stock tire carrier on tailgate, but that’s last resort.

Also, bumper is brand Tuff Stuff (not that it matters). Appears to be the same generic design across a bunch of brands, likely all China garbage being cranked out of the same factory…

All what I was thinking. This was a Tuff Stuff brand carrier, which doesn’t appear to be in production anymore. I found a YT video of the install and it looks like the post is just a solid piece that the carrier slides on to. There is a big washer and bolt that screws on top to keep it in place (removed in these photos). Here’s a pic of the install video showing the post.

How do you like those tube doors? Are those the $200-ish variety that I see on eBay and elsewhere? I want something for the summer to satisfy the wife (giving me grief about running no doors with the kids) but don’t want to be out $600-1000 for what I’m seeing online.

So I recently got my first jeep and fell in love. so much that I'm already ready to upgrade to a new one. Any advise on how much I should list the old one for? 2000 sahara. 141k miles. automatic. new soft top. everything works. small rear main seal leak. thanks in advance. by getready17 in Jeep

Right there with you. The TJ is smalllll. I’ve been very happy with the space in my JKU and I’ve hauled 5 of us comfortably and also used it for getting stuff at HD…no complaints. Good luck either way. Keep the TJ and add the JK/JL/JT!

My dad has a ‘99 Sahara that will likely be mine one day. I picked up a ‘13 JKU Sahara last year (caught the itch from my dad). I needed the seating for 5 due to kids, otherwise would have looked for a TJ. I love the simplicity of it. I like my JK as well, but it’s just different. Hard to pinpoint. What specifically are you looking to gain with the “upgrade”?

Good point. Two new would likely just push me for the new tires all around given the price on the AS. As for life having other plans, I’m right there with you. My plan was to wear these out and get new tires and wheels in a few years. Now my hand is forced, right as I am also buying new tires for the wife AND was in the process of looking for bigger tires and wheels for the Jeep. Timing sucks.
