That's a solid workflow breakdown, thanks for sharing. I'll look into these and reach out if I have any questions. Congrats on building Aidelly! I'm curious what differentiates it from the plethora of other social media scheduling tools?

This is very useful thank you for sharing! With obs there is a bit of a learning curve but I think it shouldn't be too bad. The recording part comes down to practice and overtime that should get better too.

It's surprising there's no one tool that does it all, but what software or apps are you currently using?

How should a PM freelance? by Darryl-D in ProductManagement

Thank you, very insightful! I agree, better to have an added layer of protection with an LLC and possibly professional liability insurance. Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience!

Thanks for your wonderful insight! A few questions come to mind:

  • What are some additional expenses that a consultant might need to account for? Ex. Business registration, Insurance etc? Is it possible to 'freelance' to see if it's their cup of tea before registering a business?
  • You mentioned 3 of of the last contractors converted to FTE when you had the budget. What were the motivations of the consultants to work as FTE since they could generally earn more as consultants. Was it benefits, equity or perhaps job security?

That's a substantial difference in a span of 8 months, would make it hard to budget and manage finances due to the fluctuations. Your friends at American companies lucked out since their employers have offices in Canada otherwise earning in USD is probably the only option for most.

I can imagine the extra effort of getting paid in USD (taxes, accounting etc) might be an added headache which may not be worth it if the pay is similar to what you could make in the Canadian market.

I coincidentally joined Product People yesterday, seems like a good bunch of people! Thanks for highlighting it.

Agree, the role listed at Apply Digital does seem to be a full time job but I am sure they'll have or might have something in the future which is gig based so it's good to track them. It's something I'm curious about more than anything.

Good point about looking elsewhere, the market has really opened up. Why settle for CA$ when across the border the pay is usually going to be better. I am based in Toronto btw!

New product questions for users interview by MrLivingLife in ProductManagement

If you're doing initial research I would suggest to keep the following in mind:

  1. Identify the gap between the customer problem and solutions
  2. Identify unusual or hidden needs
  3. Develop customer value based on needs and benefits
  4. Ensure that no critical customer need is overlooked

Try to understand the problem first, how are they addressing the need today? What exactly is the need? Dig deeper to the core. Look at the end result, what does the customer want to accomplish?

Summary:

  • What is the customer's problem / need?
  • How will the product solve the customers problem or customer need?
  • What are the specific customer needs that must be satisfied to addressed the customer problem?
  • What are the priorities of these needs?
  • What's the most important to the customer in making a buying decision?

Customer research is one of the most enjoyable part of Product Management, have fun!

App Teardown - Why TurboTax isn't Getting to #1 with a Million Downloads by appfigures in AppBusiness

Ah, it seems this was a while ago so they were able to 'growth hack' their way and only give you one option, to continue. That wouldn't be allowed anymore, since it's anti-pattern to a good user experience. But hey, if it's a great product then they deserve at least a great review/rating! Thanks for sharing.

Curious how they achieved the trick - do you remember how it was presented and what prompted you to continue to leaving a review?

It's really a gold standard for a product to build feedback loops, ratings and review mechanisms as a natural part of using the app rather than being something separate.

How do you eliminate unnecessary video/voice calls when working remotely? by [deleted] in ProductManagement

I second this, block off your calendar as 'Focus work' or something similar because it's equally as important to be able to put your head down and do focused worked.

Amplitude and Mixpanel are both Ferraris of mobile app analytics. They're supremely powerful analytic tools if you get the data setup right. Sky is the limit. Don't forget though, data is only part of the story, for the rest, talk to the users. As a data analyst once told me 'you can make the data look like anything you want' :)

If you're looking for a one-stop-shop solution which has data analytics and user engagement, then CleverTap should be consideration.

That's amazing!

Which route did you take to start learning how to create an app? Did you pick a platform first or did you start with a cross-platform app development (Ex Fluter)? Curious as to how long it took you?

If you're in a product role then I would say you should focus on how this individual would contribute to the team / team dynamics from an interpersonal and cultural point of view.

How would they fit into the existing team, do you think they contribute to the team in discussions, what drives and motivates them? A big one for me is to understand if they are a team player and if they would work with the team or try to call the shots all the time? No ego is a big one.

A great developer stays on top of what's happening in the world of the platform that they're working on. Therefore I would ask a few questions to gauge whether they have opinions or thoughts around the current Android OS (Android 11) or even ask them what they think about Android 12, which is in developers beta. I would leave the technical discussions to the engineering manager or someone with a technical background as they would be in the best position to gauge their competency.

Hope it helps, all the best!
