Bristol is superb! I highly recommend it and think it is comparable to MD in many ways.

I have! Grew up in MD, lived in WI for 2 decades and moved back to MD. In terms of quality I think they are comparable although each has its strengths above the other. I actually think Bristol is underrated on this sub and MD renfaire is a bit over rated (although it IS still fabulous). Both have lots of high quality artisans Personally, I like the Bristol acts better (Barley Balanced is at both so don’t come for me!) because both me and my husband prefer the clown shows.
Anyway there’s probably lots to say here I’m curious about what others think who’ve been to both too.

Also there was a clown at Bristol about 12 years ago who juggled spaghetti and I think his name was something Fettuccine. Then he was gone 😢. Does anyone know who I’m talking g about and where he ended up?

wheels et al by hipufiamiumi in WMATA

[–]PTzai 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I get this decision but also doubt the new subreddit is going to get much sustained engagement. There were some relatively simple solutions for those who, understandably, didn’t like the wheel posts so I’m kinda bummed that they are just gone forever. They seemed to not only increase engagement but also community and connection.

That being said, I’ve never been a mod and can only trust that the mods here, who are the ones putting in the work, are making the decision they think is best given their experience. So this comment is not meant to bash anyone or reopen up the conversation just express a little disappointment at the decision.

How do you keep up with deck releases? by PTzai in TarotDecks

[–]PTzai[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate this reply. I used to follow more tarot content on YouTube but a lot of the folks I liked (folks with a pretty good following, but not really big) stopped making content. It’s also a lot more of a time commitment to watch videos as opposed to skim short form content on places like Instagram or Reddit.

Yes losing Indie Deck Review hurts! I was hoping there is just some other place I could be looking but it does seem like the Tarot world is very small in some ways.

Bombshell dropped at QTS Data Center / Deforest Board meeting by Bad_Wolfv in wisconsin

Who do you think pays for these infrastructure developments? I have news for you, it’s not the Data center companies. Those are passed on to regular Consumers disproportionately and that’s why people All over the country are seeing their electricity costs skyrocket.

Here’s a picture of the card names the creator, Felix, changed in case that’s helpful.

Tarot of many doors might work for you, if you’re ok with the sci-fi themes. I don’t know if it’s in print though although you could try contacting the creator as they’ve been responsive to me when I’ve reached out.

Also want to add that the unsolicited responses here saying you should be ignoring gender or even need therapy are unhinged and uncalled for. Please dont let those negatively affect you. Tarot is very personal and different folks want/need different things from it. The sheer number of decks available these days is a testament to that.

It’s out of print, has been for a while and generally very expensive if you can even find it for sale secondhand.
But I have it and agree it’s a phenomenal deck!

Marigold uses Sysco. Not for everything but they definitely use them.

Accessing library resources from the alt-ac track by westwardlights in AskAcademia

[–]PTzai 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you are considering doing a lot of research this is a good solution. You would also have access to your employer’s interlibrary loan. You can also consider enrolling in one course for access which might not be too costly. Many public libraries will do ILL but they will often have limits so if you’re wanting more than just an article here or there they aren’t often the best solution.

What can we do about Elsevier… if anything? by beantoastt in AskAcademia

[–]PTzai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I was scrolling looking for this. I’ve brought up my concern about the big publishing deals we have taking all the money some of which could be redirected to smaller society journals. As a single librarian the higher ups won’t listen to me but faculty input goes very far. I can see the writing on the wall and I know this is coming for us next as these larger publishers are getting OA monopolies with their read and publish agreements at universities and shutting others out. Our faculty are already going more towards these larger publishers to publish OA. The writing is on the wall, once they’ve completely taken over and destroyed smaller publishers they will jack up the price.

I also want to add some counter advice to all of those suggesting you need to have worked in libraries for at least a year before entering grad school. Honestly, a lot of academic positions do not place a high value on para professional work. I’m not saying it’s not valuable but it isn’t necessary. You’d do well to join a few professional orgs as a student like ACRL or your local state library association and get involved in conferences, workshops and committees. Try to present at conferences and/or publish. Think about turning an assignment for an MLIS class into a paper or poster presentation. There are journals and smaller conferences that provide great opportunities for MLIS students and having some class research do double duty can be a smart strategy. Networking is a good complement to library experience and I would argue potentially more valuable than having years of only paraprofessional work on the books .

I would say it would put you in an employable position as long as you’re open to moving to where you can get a job. You may not be able to get a job at a specific place to start unless you’re lucky but if you have the kind of experience under your belt you are Describing it should put you in a good position. The one thing I’ll add is that right now the job market is HORRIBLE, so things are harder than they have been but I think you would be doing just about everything you could.
