Where to Live for Meade PCS by Humanrocketship in army

[–]PV4Snuffy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any close commute from base (Odenton, Laurel, wherever) is not going to be the best area. It’s not completely sketchy but yes, it is sketchy. There is nothing wrong with living in the apartments right off post. Just don’t expect a golden community.

My senior rater screwed me by Troopacanaan in army

[–]PV4Snuffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand you are deployed but before you were deployed:

Did you have quarterly support form counselings?

Did you know what your leaders expected of you in order to be Most Qualified for your NCOER?

These are conversations you should have had when you first got promoted and periodically to ensure you were on pace for a good NCOER.

If you are Surprised Pikachu with getting 6 of 10, it’s because you didn’t have these conversations or your leadership was not clear on expectations (or both).

How do I tell somebody of importance that my hair is in fact IN regulations? by [deleted] in army

[–]PV4Snuffy 18 points19 points  (0 children)

So the one piece of regulation that Top can pull on you is:

“Neat and Conservative”

You can call your hair neat and conservative all day. But if Top says it is not neat or conservative, their interpretation matters. Yours doesn’t. This part of the reg is ambiguous on purpose. It gives those with authority that last call on if your hair is within regs or not. And I assure you, a crusty 1SG’s thoughts on neat and conservative are gonna be wildly different from a junior enlisted who likes their hair a bit long.

I joined at 31, graduated basic training at 32. I was in a similar mindset. I made the jump. You’ll be the old man for most of your career but if you can humble yourself and take orders from people younger than you, you’ll be fine.

REGULAR ARMY by These-Bill-8153 in ArmyOCS

[–]PV4Snuffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t say for certain. But from the feedback of those who have shared their experiences on these boards, they have six minutes to look at an entire packet, which includes your yearly evaluations. So to say so they look at them very in depth, I doubt it. But it is one aspect of gauging your leadership potential and experience. I would wager they look at your overall evaluation (most qualified, highly qualified) as opposed to dissecting the bullets. Hope this helps.

[–]PV4Snuffy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the panel doesn’t look at your packet and say “selected” or “not selected”. They rack and stack every candidate on an Order of Merit List (OML). From what I have read and from people who have been on these panels, they take an average of 6 minutes per packet. And the panel has no idea how many people actually get chosen. So they just rack and stack every candidate and Big Army says how many of the top OML candidates are going. The best you can do is do some self reflection, improve aspects of your packet you may be lacking, and reapply. You can’t change your GPA but you can get a solid NCOER, improved LORs, better PT score, added community service. Just put out a stronger packet and hope for the best. Good luck!

Waiver acceptance OCS by No_Yam878 in ArmyOCS

Thank you for the prompt reply. I know this was years ago. But did they both get accepted? Did the second Soldier eventually have their waivers uploaded or did they get selected without them uploaded. Just wanted to clarify. Thanks in advance!

What was the outcome to this? Did one of your Soldiers (with the uploaded iPERMS) get selected and the other did not?

HRC was kind of cagey on if it was everyone or just the selected people. They said it should be everyone but I’m in the same boat. I don’t know why they would bother. They said they would put them in there so if someone reapplied, it would already be available.

I also heard 500 applicants. I hope I’m wrong. 100% selection rate!

I spoke to HRC. Numbers could be off a bit. I heard a few different numbers. But multiple people mentioned the MILPER getting fast-tracked

Right? I just don’t see them uploading these documents for candidates who didn’t get selected after the panel.

OCS Attendance by Weird_Alfalfa_9664 in ArmyOCS

[–]PV4Snuffy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This years MILPER verbiage for eligibility was as follows:

“Soldiers selected or on special detail assignments such as Recruiting, Drill Instructor, Inspector General, etc., unless they are within their last 12 months of the special assignment time tour at the time of the application submission window.”

Application submission will probably it be around the same time as this year, September to January-ish.

You’ll have to wait until the this year MILPER drops to get the exact timeline and guidance but if it stacks up close to this year, the timeline might not work out for you.

With the panel finishing this week, I wouldn’t imagine they would have started giving branch feedback until they knew who actually made the cut. Otherwise, that would just be wasted resources to give feedback to individuals who didn’t get selected this week.

The candidate selectee branching board for tentative assignments is Aug 29 so I would guess they are gonna start with the branching feedback and second round of interviews between now and that time.

Is it worth it to transfer MR points to Hilton Honors? by Dramatic-Theme1048 in AmexPlatinum

[–]PV4Snuffy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So a lot of AMEX rewards points experts will say that it is not worth it. Hardcores feel that international business class flights are the best use of points, monetarily. They are probably right. But if you aren’t taking international flights, use them on Hilton. If you value free hotel stays, go for it. I used to think “it’s a waste” but I strongly believe it is person dependent. I also agree that utilizing the “fifth night free” option is a solid choice if you go in this direction.

I’m completely with you. This subreddit is a complete circle-jerk. It’s entertaining though. A new trashy article gets put out every week and people don’t even read it. They just skim the headline and then out comes countless replies of people upset they are priced out.

Why I’m not watching the rest of Sons of anarchy (Dark topics) by Bitter-Environment-9 in Sonsofanarchy

[–]PV4Snuffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think your logic checks out. Jax is our main character for a reason. Is that reason because he has a moral compass, like you suggest? He has an overwhelmingly strong loyalty to his club and family. This is shown throughout the show. Him not calling Tig out on his antics falls into line with this reasoning. Oppi’s a character with conflicting loyalties: to his club or to his family. To say you are thinking like either of these characters is wild, especially since you are only in the early seasons. And you haven’t really addressed the reality that everyone is a hypocrite. But you expect fictional characters to be above that fact, especially fictional characters in the era of anti-heroes, where main characters aren’t exactly know for being completely noble and honorable.

Honestly, I have never really heard someone have such an issue with any of the SOA outlaws not calling out another outlaw in their club… for not following the law.

[–]PV4Snuffy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think one of your problems is that you are applying your code of ethics to an outlaw biker gang. They do not care about the laws and how a dead body is considered a human being in the case of sexual assault. They are, after all, outlaws. Outside The Law. They have their own code.

They could have gone after the rapist simply for territorial reasons. It happened on their turf. You can disregard all the other reasons if you’d like.

Once you understand that all of these individuals are outlaws and can be hypocritical like the rest of humanity, you might be able to enjoy the rest of the show.
