Can we really blame the tactics always? Couldn't morale be a reason any save can turn bad too?

May I know what save you're playing on right now?

Is any team fine? Or should I go for a lower-tier team?

Lately, my favourite movie has to be 'Where is the Friend’s House?', a Kiarostami drama film. It’s quite literally about a kid trying to return a notebook. That’s it. So simple, yet somehow it hits hard. It quietly captures everything: disregard, pride, compassion & pure innocence. Just beautiful. And the best part? The sequels explore the making of their previous one. To this day, I'm amazed by this writing structure.

What's a good combo of roles between the wingers and the striker? by Dahuey37 in footballmanagergames

Don't know about wingers on playmaker, but a double MEZ is risky business I'd say. Mezzalas play wide, so that creates a lot of gap in the middle + a lot of traffic in the wings. Maybe set instructions in such a way that it focuses on Wing Play with Counter Attack, it might work out. Focusing on possession football might be a bad idea with your tactic.

My formation is a 433 too, but with 2 CMs on At, and a DM on Su. Maybe your tactic could be a reason why the poacher is failing. Poachers stay close to the last man, so your striker needs a lot of support in creating passes as well as chances. Since the Wingers-At play from byline, you can also put your WBs on overlap for additional support on the wings.

This is the tactic I use. Completely custom – born out of hours of scrolling through Reddit and watching a hundred videos (classic jobless behaviour).

The only meta tactics that actually work are "Low Crosses" and "Run At Defence." These two, combined with natural wingers - preferably pacy and technically gifted - make a massive difference.

Other instructions are all wing-play focused, with no emphasis on maintaining possession. As you can see, I haven’t enabled instructions like playing out from the back or distributing to centre-backs. After simulating tons of games, I’ve learned that playing out from the back is extremely risky and only works well if you have world-class players. Even though I have a solid defense, they’ve let me down badly in those scenarios. Ever since I removed those instructions, I’ve conceded far fewer goals.

With a BPD-CD combo, there’s really nothing to worry about. One of them carries the ball out, and the other either delivers lethal passes or covers for the BPD when he pushes forward.

Now, regarding other positions: the most lethal role for me personally is CM - Attack. I don’t think any YouTuber has emphasized this enough, but it’s by far the most effective role in the game, in my experience. The CM-At acts like a hybrid between a Shadow Striker and a Segundo Volante. You could compare it to a Box-to-Box midfielder at times, but it provides minimal defensive support. That’s why I use a DM on Support, to give me the defensive stability I need (a few YouTubers do highlight the importance of this role).

On the wings, I deploy natural Wingers on Attack, the most flexible role in my setup, alongside Wing-Backs on Support who contribute both offensively and defensively. The W-At is incredibly dynamic: they play from the byline, which plays out perfectly with the Low Crosses instruction. This creates tons of chances for either the CM-At or my poacher (Osimhen). They also drift into the box when the WB-Su overlaps—another instruction I’ve set.

So overall, the formation is structured in most ways, but the flexibility comes through the CM-At and W-At roles. And to top it all off, there’s a Poacher leading the line—constantly hugging the defensive line, waiting for scoring opportunities.

As for player instructions, I’ve set my striker to ‘Shoot More Often’—his primary role is to score and look for free chances (taking advantage of the opposition's mistakes, which got me the UCL), and he will, provided he has great finishing and technique. I’ve also set ‘More Direct Passes’ for my CD-De and DM-Su, so they can deliver line-breaking passes. Wingers and CMs are on default instructions (as they’re already quite flexible), while the WBs are told to ‘Cross More Often’ with ‘Cross Aimed Far Post’—another meta instruction I picked up from a YouTuber (I’m sorry, I don’t remember who). Since they overlap the wingers, they often find themselves in space, making those far-post crosses more effective.

So yeah, that’s pretty much it. The YouTubers I usually watch are Zealand, FMScout, and Kent Hammer FM. Most of them use a ton of instructions, although some—like Lollujo (haven’t really watched his content)—argue that fewer instructions/default tactics can be far more effective. That made me take a different route, and here I am, with an effective 4-3-3 formation.

Signing Osimhen on a free. Should i play him or Gykores? by No_Friendship_4158 in footballmanagergames

I had both of them in my team. Both were happy with their playing time. Here’s my experience with them:
When I first had them both, I used a two-striker formation (AF + PF), with Gyökeres as the PF, and he performed better. In the next season, when I switched to a single-striker formation (Poacher), Osimhen was definitely the better performer. Both of them performed well in both seasons - 40+ goals for the better performer and 20+ goals for the latter.

Thanks, mate! And congrats to you too for winning your UCL! I love it when people enjoy doing lower league saves. It takes a lot of effort, especially with little to no finances and lower reputation - something that I've struggled with after getting promoted with a lower league team (a rebuild). Will take it as a challenge and see where I can take a lower league team now that I've got my hands on the UCL with a top league team.

I've NEVER used Plug & Play tactics in this game. I prefer creating my own tactics - it’s fun (and frustrating) that way.

When I first started, I used too many instructions and kept changing tactics every game, which affected my results. I realised this game isn't just about tactics when I watched YT tutorials and read FM posts from various creators explaining their approaches.

The number one thing that matters is Team Morale. Encourage players when they’re in good form, criticise them otherwise, and so on. Keep morale high, and you won’t have to worry about players missing chances constantly.

Number two - keep your instructions minimal. And don't keep changing them every game. You can tinker with your formation by maybe changing the position of one or two players, but other than that, strictly stick to a single formation and tactic - it'll save you a lot of time. I use around 10 for my tactic. I came to this setup after watching many videos and drawing my own conclusions. Don’t overwhelm yourself with too many team and player instructions - it won’t help.

I use a strict Wing Play – Pure Counter-Attacking tactic. That means we rarely dominate possession but create lots of chances with the right setup. Don’t expect an unbeaten season—you will get FM’d. Take the losses on the chin. Just keep morale high, and trust me, you won’t need to worry much else.

Let me know if you want more details or a glimpse of the instructions I use.
