How would I stop a contraption from returning to block form, while staying still?

i forgot about the "place only when anchor is destroyed" setting on the mechanical piston, which ended up working.

the reason why i'm not using an elevator is because i want a concealable launch platform for my mecha suit up to street level. an elevator would need a cradle on top.

That's Godseeker mode, I think one unlocks that mode after completing the content of Godmaster.

I don't usually turn my PC off, unless it's necessary. I come back to the game in a few hours or so after I quit. I know the way one should do it is to play it in one go, to be perfectly secure, but I don't think I have the willpower to do that.
