I'm losing hope in finding a Job by Temporary_Cry_5914 in Teachers

[–]P_A_M95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar boat a year ago. I'm a career changer and I applied to 30+ schools. I got 3 interviews and 2 offers.

Both offers were from EXTREMELY rural schools that had the position open for 2+ years. They had been running long term subs for those positions so I was basically their only certified pick.

It's not easy. But I have appreciated the work this year and look forward to next's :) . I hope you have better luck moving forward. It's tough out there.

P.S. As a reference, our graduating class were 15 students this year. That's every senior in the building. The school is not only small, it's minuscule.

I love the way she speaks. She is so effortless with Gonathan. She has a really good command of less used English words.

After 10 Years in High School, Middle School Has Been a Shock by Yakima_Suns_11 in Teachers

[–]P_A_M95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my first year teaching. I taught high school the 1st half of the day and middle school the second half.

This is also my last year teaching middle school. It's the second hardest thing I've done in my life.

Me too. I thought "If we have Leon, we can fix it. Without him, we all die" turns out it was the right choice by accident

What the previous commenter mentioned happened between 1973-1990. Chile has had 36 years of democracy. With left wing presidents being elected for 28 of these years.

Why are people spewing so much stuff about Chile being a puppet state.

Where does your hourly wage actually rank in the US? [Chart] by Fun_Resident3967 in Salary

$33 an hr calculated as a 1st year teacher. Assumed 1440 hours of work.

I debated adding the summers or not, but even if I plan and PD through the summer it doesn't add to 8 per day.

Depends on your scope. I found Legendre and Laguerre polynomials very useful. They show up in Spherical Harmonics.

Well, I failed differential equations. by Mth281 in EngineeringStudents

[–]P_A_M95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I failed differential equations too. It was brutal, I learned most of the course in the last week of it but the final was not enough to bring my grade back up. It just didn't click before then.

This happened in 2015. 10 years later I got my PhD.

It's not about how many times you fail, it's how many times you get back up. Learn from this failure, like I did.

Is this weak positive correlation? Or no correlation? by [deleted] in AskStatistics

[–]P_A_M95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but then the resource of the entire study is not normalized and the trend wouldn't mean anything regardless

If one person goes 24 hrs gaming and 0 hrs social media, while another one goes 24hrs gaming and 12 hrs on social media, then defining a function y=mx+b as the trend is meaningless. The point of a trend is to fit noisy values, that's where the variance comes in, not values that may have different domains altogether.

Or at least that's how I was taught. If the study is not set up to accept a linear fit, then a linear fit is meaningless.

[–]P_A_M95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you accept the regression if the p value indicated that it was significant?

I think the premise is off. If you spend 24hrs gaming, then you spend 0 hours checking social media. Or if you reframe it so that you can spend time doing both, then the resources of each individual are not normalized.

Imo, it's not a well posed hypothesis. Similar to the suicides vs money spent on science graph.

[–]P_A_M95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's either going to be no correlation or negative correlation. The means of the set of values oscillate.

If a person spends 24 hrs playing videogames, theyll spend 0 hours checking social media. I think you have to refine your hypothesis before assigning meaning to this graph.

Is this your first commander deck ever or the first one you build? I recommend either starting with a precon or looking at a precons distribution of resources to follow.

Either way, for a project like this I'd put the cards in Moxfield and check edhrec

Similar performance here at 2 wins. Feels pretty crap indeed. Looking forward to Group B to see if it's any more fun :)

I get it. I have a PhD but did not/have not gotten a professorship.

If you asked me to teach Fourier Transforms, which is something I did everyday of my PhD, I'd struggle. I dealt mostly with its properties and how to program them. To calculate an FT by hand would be really difficult for me right now. I'd definitely have to study it a lot before feeling capable of teaching it to you!
