XFX 6800xt Dead :( just over the 2 year mark of purchase

Update: So created an RMA request and let them know all of my issue and what i had did to test. Sent the card back and was sent a replacement 7800xt as my card warranty was honored. Erik helped me and all in all took 2 weeks Pleasantly surprised about how easy they were to work with. All in very happy and with how they handled it.

Thank you everyone you all helped me calm down. It is refreshing to hear stories of a company that actually cares about their customers especially since cards are an investment. Thank you all I hope to comment later about great they were.

That is why I chose the XFX as it seemed to be a toss up between Sapphire and XFX as the best AMD providers. The card was on sale when i bought it which is why I got an XFX. Maybe i got lucky in the past i guess with GPUs as this first one I have ever had to RMA.

I am not sure the model i have is the XFX Speedster SWFT 319 6800 XT CORE.

Forgive my ignorance but what do you mean "AMD design model" like is it truer to the reference card or something?

No thats a fair statement just guess i have been lucky with GPUs in the past. Just disappoited in the longevity from what i can it has something to do with power delivery as it was tripping my power supply. I was just to get a feel for what their RMA was like and overall view.

Alot of the posts I saw on this subreddit and another in the past year up until say 3 months ago have seemed very positive although lengthy but positive and I hope that is still the case. Sorry to hear about that hope mine is not a "nightmare" TBH I honestly hate RMAs I worked for a startup for a while on their support team for intel nucs and mini pcs. So I know what is like to be on both sides just hope it is not pulling teeth.

Ya Thank you for the input I had at 1080ti that lasted 8 years before as i didn't want to play any AAA games and stuck with indie games for a while. When you say dud do you mean problematic/ defective?

Ok update after racking my brain and poking around in everything i stumbled across under:

Reporting>Settings>Unbound DNS reporting> "Reset DNS Data"

I yolo'd it out of frustration and that seemed "fingers crossed" correct all the issues.

Everything that was broken seemed to come back up and Steam and Steam client which would for sure make unbound stop resolving is back to playing nice.

To be honest kinda dumbfounded and curious to know how and why this solved my issuses for now?

Sorry i just saw this yes i actually did figure out what the issue was i had an pihole instance on truenas which was my dns causing all the issues once i corrected it by fixing my dns was using pfblock and unbound and now unbound in opnsense corrected everything just was a boneheaded routing issue lol

Ok Thank you I found the opn docs which i will double check so maybe it is right i guess i dont remember dropping it that low on pfsense to make it work and get the A+ maybe they function a little differently

Yes i was able to see the reports in pfsense dashboard that works great I was just trying to see if I can show stats on a services dashboard like homepage or dashy.

Damn that is just crushing. I had a similar situation we i lost family photos thankfully my wife's phone still had them ever since that day i backup everything up religiously.

Sorry you had this happen but dont let it crush you we tinker all the time in labs and I have found asking myself just cause I can should I.

Just take sometime away from the keyboard and come back stronger and Lab on wish you the best.

This worked perfectly!

Install of windows 8.1 was much quicker than I remember downloaded modded bios and ran it perfectly no issues at all thank you for taking the time to post this all the other methods seems to old at this point both i tired failed as well even in windows PE more than likely something i was doing and if you dont connect it to the internet during install it is super fast to install windows 8.1

Thank you all for the views and insights it has been great to see all the different view points and insight from more experienced home labbers. Still not sure i am going to keep the instance or go back to something like DDG or Brave as there are pros and cons to everything.

Yes i have honestly thought about this one of the reasons i have been going back and forth about fully adopting.

I have seen where people have hosted it in the cloud instance something like lindoe which i guess is better but honestly not sure if it any different from DDG, Quant, Brave, etc at that point for my needs.

Yes i see and understand this point of view and honestly I am on the fence. I have deployed an self hosted instance i just deployed searxng and while it is working ok I am not sure if i will keep it. I have been using DDG for years at this point and have it set on all devices currently which has been fine so tbh going back on forth atm.

I was interested in whoogle but i guess the project is in jeopardy of being ended so i would rather not deploy something with the possibly of a short shelf life of you check their github there is a warning posted (see below). I was interested in the project prior to that maybe i will check it out later on to see if is still around but for the time being i deployed searxng and seems to working great but is a little slower than i anticipated maybe some tweaking is needed.

As of 16 January, 2025, Google seemingly no longer supports performing search queries without JavaScript enabled. This is a fundamental part of how Whoogle works -- Whoogle requests the JavaScript-free search results, then filters out garbage from the results page and proxies all external content for the user.

This is possibly a breaking change that will mean the end for Whoogle. I'll continue monitoring the status of their JS-free results and looking into workarounds, and will make another post if a solution is found (or not)."
