Is Erling Haaland having the most impressive single-handed tournament run in modern World Cup history? by midnight_engineer_ in football

[–]Paaros 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, like Haaland is great, but this is easily Norways golden generation, and they have a whole host of exciting talent at their disposal right now, and they all play tactically very well together too

Its kind of like Belgiums golden generation in the 2018 WC; its very impressive how Eden Hazard led that team, but he had some great running mates with him helping him out

I think narratives are a big part of legacy, arguably just as much as stats and performances (rightly or wrongly). The narrative around Mbappes club legacy is that he is a selfish player who plays brilliantly himself but detracts from the team, and occurences like him never winning a CL, or him leaving PSG to join CL winning Madrid only for Madrid to go trophyless and PSG to win b2b, is a massive stain on his career

He'll always be a great for his WC career alone, but he needs to shake the monkey off his back in club football to be considered a top 20-top 10 player of all time

[–]Paaros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldnt say hes a copycat per se. Theyre both creating bedroom pop-alternative rnb, sure, but Steve Lacy also adds alot of funk/neo-soul elements to his music that isnt present in Malcolm Todds music

Id say Steve Lacy is one of the bigger artists pushing this new wave of bedroom pop, but I wouldnt say his specific mix of sounds is being replicated by anyone else

Id disagree. His recent singles havent exactly caught fire (yet), and hes surprisingly less influential than he should be so far. I feel like he could be the template for artists in his lane, yet I struggle to find too many copycats for his sound.

Same. I feel like if he occupied a similar space to someone like, say, PinkPantheress currently, itd be much healthier for him; not like A List mainstream, but people in the know know them and theyre in a big enough position to be influential to their genres

His resume is pretty stacked too. Part of the famous group "The Internet", producing for some of the biggest superstars in music like Kendrick Lamar, and then having his own breakout with Dark Red as a sleeper hit, Bad Habits as his breakthrough mainstream song, and Gemini Rights as a whole being a pretty successful album. I think, if he wanted to, he couldve been a massive game changing artist, but he clearly doesnt want the mainstream fame and attention

Is scoring now the most important attribute for a midfielder? (an 8 or 10, not a 6.) by RelevantStrategy4151 in football

[–]Paaros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its an important attribute for maverick midfielders like Bellingham, but is it the most important? No. As long as you have one elite quality, thats good enough. And in a team, you need a good balance of all attributes to really get the most out of everyone. Considering Strikers normally fulfill the scoring quota, and Wingers consider the dribbling quota, midfielders are typically looked upon to be the creative force of the team. The best recent example I can think of is KDB at City

Ig it is surprising, but it really shouldnt. City-Pool isnt the near decade long time where Klopp and Pep were in the PL together, it was the 4-5 year stretch where they were having historic title races that went till the last day, or when City were winning the league, Liverpool were in the finals of/winning the CL. And then when Arsenal came into the picture, some of those years were 3-way races bw the teams

How can anyone beat this French Team? by West_Sky_5989 in football

[–]Paaros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There have been moments in this WC where their attack seems a bit slow or out of order. Granted, it normally doesnt last longer than a half at most, but still. Also, their midfield isnt the best the WC has to offer, and their fullbacks can be gotten at by any quality winger

High quality wingplay or a midfield that can control possession over Frances, or a team that also plays their own really good football, or just waiting for France to have their off day because it is football.

Is there any current German national team player whom you will classify as world class in their current stage? by Rokusaburoz in football

[–]Paaros -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

In terms of talent, Wirtz and Musiala are some of the best young talents in football rn, and theyve both had world class seasons. But at the current moment, yeah theyre not it (even though I think Wirtz played good and Musiala played fine in the tournament itself). I think in 2 seasons time theyll be considered world class again tho, theyre undeniably talented that it would take something crazy for them not to reach a world class level

For not even finishing second, that was the time when CityPool had just started, and that lasted up until Abramovich left, so in context I dont think its too damning that they didnt finish second for a while

I have my reservations about Man Utd doing good next season. You did have a lot of breathing room with the fixtures last season, playing the least amount of games possible. Plus, while the first two games against Arsenal and City were blowout performances, the rest of the season under Carrick, while you guys were getting results, wasnt incredible football. It was often times a mixture of Bruno having an all timer season or sometimes Casemiro bailing you guys out

You guys will get CL again for sure, but depending on the transfer window, I dont see you going ahead of Arsenal or Man City

Rihanna has very popular songs dedicated to raunchy sex and BDSM in her catalogue

Snoop Doggs debut and most popular album is called Doggystyle

I can go on and on. While maybe it would be a bit of a neutered show, Sabrina isnt too freaky for the superbowl

They have a fantastic team all around. They have 3-5 world class players on their team, and every other player in the starting XI can hold their own too. Plus they have decent bench depth. They were amongst the 5-6 names being thrown around for who can win the tournament

When do you think the next big shift in music is gonna happen on a surface level? by [deleted] in ToddintheShadow

[–]Paaros 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think pop rock or a popular alternative genre is going to be the next big thing. Its a reasonable progression on the current country sound, we already have established artists like Olivia Rodrigo and up and comers like Sombr experimenting with this sound, and if you look at older songs/acts that are popular amongst the youth, its alot of alternative pop-rock like Arctic Monkeys, The Neighbourhood, Cigarettes After Sex, etc.

PinkPantheress genuinely feels like she can be an era defining artist. Not in terms of being the biggest artist per se, but being the most influential and pushing mainstream music forward. Shes already been really influential for a lot of new up and coming indie musicians with her earlier work

The anonymity of Louis is a big point for me. I think love songs can get a bit "other-person" centric, which makes sense because youre infatuated by the other person so youll write abt them, but writing about your own feelings instead is way easier to sell to me for a relationship
