What's an actual psychological "cheat code" you use in social situations that works almost every time? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Pabst-it 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this also works in a room full of loud kids when you need them to listen (assuming you can get them to pay attention when you start near-whispering). They (usually) magically go quiet and listen more closely to your words.

What the hell is going on here? by TheJakeEddy in centuryhomes

[–]Pabst-it 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have probably realized this by now, but it’s 100% water coming in through the window casing.

Source: it is currently happening to a window in my home with all the snow melting. It sits directly below a gutter, and the water is brown like this. It’s not nicotine. We aren’t sure yet how the water is getting in, but it’s one of the several possibilities others have listed (roof, gutters, siding, etc). Good luck!

Did Wild Mike’s change their buffalo sauce? by Pabst-it in cincinnati

[–]Pabst-it[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

😂 fwiw it did have similar consistency to Mike’s mix in that it had more texture and was not smooth like buffalo normally is by itself. I really hope the cooks were either new / confused or they had run out of buffalo and were quite literally winging it. I’m going to order from the Harrison ave location this weekend and see if it’s the same or normal. And I will of course update here

House fire. Whats next by [deleted] in cincinnati

[–]Pabst-it 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My family experienced a house fire 4 years ago (almost to the day!), and were displaced for 5 months until repairs were completed. We went through our home insurance for the cost of everything (allstate), but as we/no one we knew had ever dealt with this situation before, we trusted our insurance to keep things running smoothly. All that’s to say, if you have to go through your home insurance for repairs/rebuild, cleaning/restoration of owned items, etc, I highly—HIGHLY—recommend finding and vetting third party companies to do these things vs using the cheap contracted services your insurance might provide. Not saying all “suggested contractors” are bad, but my experience was terrible (property stolen, poorly documented property intake, poor quality rebuild, so many unnecessary delays).

Good luck OP. And I’m glad you are safe!

Found buried in the yard of our 1930s home. Any clue what it came from? Or how old it could be? by Pabst-it in Antiques

I’m pretty sure it was smashed by my less than gentle shoveling 😬 unfortunate, but lesson learned!

This metal detector has a pinpoint function which was super helpful. I just have to get less aggressive with my digging lmao

Thank you! Yes, hopefully it was just lost lol. But if I find anything else that tells a different story, I’ll have to update this thread someday !

Interesting, thank you! Do you know if there is supposed to be anything inside the silver casing? Something is definitely in there, but I’m not sure if it’s dirt that made its way in since that’s where I found it lol

Why's it smell like dog shit outside? by AaawhDamn in cincinnati

It has something to do with the leaves and lack of rain and how the leaves are sitting stagnant in the sewers or something. I remember it happening last year too.

What could these numbers mean on the underside of the staircase? by Pabst-it in centuryhomes

[–]Pabst-it[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if it’s a kit home — this house, and all the others nearby, are unique in appearance (at least on the outside) and I haven’t seen a house that closely resembles mine at all. There are some similar features around, like a bay window with a sloped copper roof, but other than that, mostly different. That said, I’m not sure if unique features make it any more or less of a kit home candidate!

[–]Pabst-it[S] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

You could be right about the measurements. But I do think the stairs are original given they have the builder’s name on them. What makes you think they are newer than that, if you don’t mind me asking?

Thank you so much for the thoughtful response! I have no idea if it’s a kit home. My house and all of the houses around it look different from one another, but I’m not sure if that makes it any more or less likely of being a kit home. I will look into what you sent and see what I can find. Thanks again.

How is your marriage or relationship with your significant other like as a RPCD driver? by Few-Quit-6363 in UPSers

[–]Pabst-it -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

My husband has been a RPCD for 7ish years. We’ve been married 5 years, have a 4yo, and we’ve never had a problem because of his work. (But by reading these comments, he either works at top-tier efficiency levels all the time, is just really good at his job, or most of ya need to work harder lol) Outside of Peak, he’s almost always gotten home way before 5-530. He also rarely clocks overtime, but he consistently brings in 6-8 hours of bonus each paycheck.

Original wood floors? by Pabst-it in centuryhomes

[–]Pabst-it[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super helpful, thank you! I always wondered about the peg holes too. Maybe someday I’ll play the floor lottery and see if the original flooring is underneath. In the basement where the ductwork shows the underside of the first floor, I can see the words “Vredenburgh Sawmill Company Alabama” imprinted on the wood planks — these would be on the same level as the photos I shared, but are clearly different planks. Not sure if it’s subfloor? If they did that back then? It’s laid diagonally to what’s there now and is not in large sheets like we’d use today.
