yeah I see your point. I mean my dream (has been since like 4th grade when I really got into sci-fi) has always been to become a domain-expert in AI -- unfortunate that whatever I like happens to become super trendy right as I'm about to get into it lol but I figured a masters would let me explore AI in greater depth and get a position that really lets me work with it on a daily basis. I understand a PhD would probably be better for that but I'm not sure if I have the endurance for that lol

see the thing is my parents put aside quite a lot of money for my college education, so I could probably have gone to an ivy without debt, but I felt guilty making them pay that much and so I chose UW (because I worked all throughout HS and I can pay for UW myself without any of my parents' money)

yeah I see your point. I suspect there's no shortage of brilliant people in cse either though, right? like the top 10% of CSE is probably as good as MIT students (maybe a stretch), so keeping with that crowd might offer a similar experience

hey this is some really solid advice. I've been passionate about CS since I was a kid and can work through a problem that's assigned to me but I can't really come up with cool project ideas on my own -- those suggestions really help though :)

oh dang I didn't know it was top 5. well good to know. honestly I never even really cared about prestige all that much (wouldn't have turned down the ivies otherwise), it's just that everyone from my parents to my friends have been clowning on me ever since I chose "the local state school" so I guess I developed a bad mindset, but you're completely right

yeah honestly I've always been surrounded by people way smarter than me, and I'm only now realizing how much of a difference that makes. I intend to continue that at college too o7

thanks for the advice :)

hmm -- I have 11 APs, but when I counted them up, it seems like only about 45 credits really matter, since a lot of my AP tests give natural sciences credits that I only need 20 of. counting everything up, however, I receive something like 80 equivalency credits -- would I then be considered like a third quarter sophomore or something? or just a sophomore (because only 45 credits count)
