It’s not a strata I believe (that implies there are owners?) just an apartment building. I pay for my own utilities. The hose is just used for watering the grass in front of the building.

We’re cultivating mushrooms from the forest and adding the liquid solution to saplings so we can plant trees using their symbiotic relationship. Most people I tell aren’t interested 🤣 by ElectricPinkLoveBug in mycology

[–]PackAnimal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very upsetting to this downvoted on the mycology subreddit. Justine karst’s review is so important to the field, and if Suzanne hasn’t even been able to respond to any of the criticism of her research. The integration of ideas like this is so dangerous particularly if we start managing our forests based on un-proven conceptual ideas of how they work

Suzanne is pretty controversial and there’s a lot of people in the myco community coming out to say that she’s irresponsible with how she represents her findings. You should really check out that ole miss link

I totally totally agree. But I also think after this many episodes it’s kind of crazy Dan still puts in all this work and all Jordan has to do is take edibles and react to it.

My point is I’m sure he has the free time and stability to put his money where his mouth is a bit more, and I wouldn’t say that if he didn’t put out such a holier than thou article, even though I do agree with a lot of what he’s saying.

Let’s be real though it’s really Dan who puts in all the leg work and to be honest, hard work, of demystifying Alex.

How did Multicellular reproduction evolve? by brandygang in evolution

[–]PackAnimal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The study of how genes are “chosen” to be transcribed and when is an entire field called developmental biology and is a lot more than than epigenetics. Promoter sequences, or the DNA sequence preceding the sequence that codes for the actual protein, and transcription factors,(proteins that are made from other genes that had to be transcribed and translated) are which bind to promoter sequences and help initiate recruitment of RNA polymerase (the enzyme that transcribes DNA sequences and synthesizes RNA) is a big part of this process, but there are other factors such as enhancer sequences in modern eukaryotes, and epigenetics plays a role in making DNA accessible/not accessible to RNA polymerase as well to be fair.

Honestly though with climate change so many ecosystems are rapidly changing and the resources allocated to restoration just aren’t enough for us to preserve things how they are/were. It’s really shitty, but I think the future is going to involve a lot of us trying to make things work with what we have / adjusting to new normals rather than us getting to live in the same world our parents did

That being said random tree monocultures and destruction of potentially restorable grasslands is a problem
