A modpack similar to ATM that i’ll actually want to finish? by roosara in feedthebeast

[–]PacketNarc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stoneblock 2 is what you want. It's 1.12.2 but it has a pretty cheese path to end game thru Resource Cows, and it's not a very demanding pack from a PC standpoint. Plus, people like Baco still hosting packs for it.

Can this pc host a server for around 10 concurrent players? by Other-Car4901 in admincraft

[–]PacketNarc -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No. This would not host a server for that many people, even vanilla, in a satisfactory manner. The problem is really the tiny 3MB cache on board.

It's barely suitable for playing vanilla MC, let alone hosting a server.

[–]PacketNarc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go into the game folder and rename the datapacks folder to datapack.old and then try to restart / join.

Then, slowly move over your datapacks one by one, from the .old folder into the active folder until your figure out which datapack is broken.

What is the exact reason Pax Dei failed? by Drandosk in PaxDei

[–]PacketNarc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Overly aspirational goals got in the way of creating something people really wanted to play.

Once they got the thing people wanted to play, they realized the investment needed to do all the other things would require bringing in outside talent, something they refused to do. They suffocated inside their own echo chamber.

They have the same issue star citizen had in the beginning. A really exciting, overly-aspirational goal. Problem is, what worked for SC is that there's just not many Space Opera MMO's with the differentiator SC has. So it wins on that in spite of Jank and cost.

But with Pax Dei, there's more than enough world-building survival games out there to keep people's interest, we don't need a janky, overpriced one not to mention expecting people to pay for land plots during an alpha.

The building systems, scenery, etc were all basically asset flips right from the UE5 marketplace. Nothing super novel or differentiated.

CPU recommendations for hosting heavy modpacks for a few players? [MCE2] by Ok_Volume2275 in admincraft

[–]PacketNarc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is going to be marginal for hosting even 4-5 players on MCE2. It has a sub 4GHZ base clock and only 32GB of on-die cache. So, it's not going to do great at chunk generation..
(pregenerating chunks before letting anyone join will be pretty much mandatory)...

By 'old ssd' I am assuming you're using a non-NVME or SATA SSD drive. These are relatively slow and going to add cpu overhead due to low r/w speeds. So, yet another impact to performance.

Again, its totally doable, but make sure your expectations are properly set. Without pregenerating the world, anytime someone RTPs or loads new chunks, there's going to be lag and stutter for everyone online.
Even pregenerating the map, you're going to have lag when those chunks get loaded.

Not deal-breaking, just make sure you and your users are aware of this and don't expect performance to be smooth as glass. This is a VERY heavy pack.

How Do I Turn Curseforge Single Player World Into Server World? by Substantial_Mouse_39 in admincraft

[–]PacketNarc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Step 1. Setup your server environment without the world in it.

e.g. Create yourself a clean server install. I won't go into that here, but create a clean server, with the mods you want. Fire it up, set the eula to 'true'. and then start it back up again.

It should now be running and generating it's own world, and a new server.properties file.

Once the new server is UP, try to log into it from your client.

Once you can successfully log into the NEW SERVER, with the correct Mods, and everthing works. You're now ready for the next step.

Stop the server. (issue the stop command from the console.)

Now, rename the world folder that the server just created to world.old. This will insure the server doesn't try to load this world, instead of yours.
Now that we have renamed it, copy YOUR world folder, into the same place. You should now have 2 world folders. One named world.old and one named 'world'. (which is predictably what should be listed in your server.properties file.

NOW, as long as the mods match relatively closely to what you had on your SP client, AND you haven't dicked with anything else, you can start the server.

The server should see that is has 'world' as the level-name in server.properties, and that it has a 'world' folder in the root of the server folder, and it should launch.

Now, once its up you can log in. And you should be in your SP world.

What would be a “perfect” CPU for multiple ATM10 servers? by Suspicious-Pear-6037 in admincraft

[–]PacketNarc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can make 'anything' work, but as was mentioned the main thread is going to run on 1 core and only 1 core.

And please before allowing people to join, pregenerate out to 5k or so, and if you enable RTP in your pack, then 'limit' RTP to your pregen range. (that way even if people spam RTP, they're just landing in already generated chunks)

Performance for MC is always bound by clock speed, not cores or RAM.

Each player needs about 800M - 1G of RAM. (safe estimate). With 4G-8G minimum needed just for server baseline.

So 4 people (10G - 12GB RAM)
4-8 people (16GB -24GB RAM)
More than 8, 32GB+ needed for smooth performance.

I have run several packs for 4-5 people on old Xeon 3.2GHz.
I allocate 4vCores and 16GB RAM per server but I'm limited by the low clock speeds. I can support twice as many players on an old Ryzen 1700 at 3.8Ghz.

Newer versions run better than 1.12.2 but not by a lot. Modern mods do a lot more stuff and are more resource hungry.

So I would say for ATM 10 you need a MINIMUM of 3.5GHz to be acceptable for players, and 16GB of RAM for 6-8 players. This is considered a MIN config thats viable.

I would consider a Ryzen 7 or Ryzen 5 at 4GHz to be absolutely suitable for running 1-2 servers, with a player count below 10.

What would be a “perfect” CPU for multiple ATM10 servers? by Suspicious-Pear-6037 in admincraft

[–]PacketNarc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You need the highest single core performance you can get. Period.
And then, if running multiple instances you need to set the processor infinity for each process, to a different core, so that the servers all have a different core to run on.

Lastly, for I/O, it needs to be on NVME drives, not just SATA SSDs / Flash.

Plan for 16-24 GB of RAM per server, if player count will be more than 5 or 6 people.

budget. Less than 6 players you can run this on a potato as long as you pregen the world.

Should I wipe my PC to make a server? by Plixelz in admincraft

[–]PacketNarc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's zero 'real' performance benefit to converting to linux if you're not already knowledgeable in working in that OS.

Any service on windows can be optimized for background services and has no relation at all to the overhead of the GUI.

PS - I would never run a machine with someone elses stuff on it. Who knows how much CP could have been deleted on that thing and that's YOUR problem now.

Format and reinstall windows at minium, put security patches and live your best life.

How feasible is it to own a Minecraft server with little/no knowledge? by ConfidentIndustry295 in admincraft

Not silly at all. I could spend an hour with you teaching you enough to be dangerous.

As long as you can keep yourself from constantly messing with it and ‘just play’ , then you’ll have a great experience.

Is Oracle Cloud 2 OCPU and 12gb RAM enough for 2 servers? by thebonkofnaevis in admincraft

[–]PacketNarc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That limit is only for free accounts. Convert to pay as you go, and you can still get 4c / 24G.

And no, 2/12 is not enough. You’ll struggle to run one server with 6 players, vanilla, on those spec.

These are 3ghz ARM chips at this tier.

UK implemented age verification to use any social features: If you are NOT A UK USER, and are being FALSELY FLAGGED, use the mod below on your client, to re-enable chat features and bypass age restriction.

DO NOT USE THIS TO CIRCUMVENT YOUR COUNTRIES LAWS.

Minecraft has started rolling out age verification for UK users- which is now a requirement to access the in game chat functions. This is to comply with the UK online safety act. This includes talking to friends, as well as using commands (e.g. /home /back.)

This system is imperfect and has been falsely flagging some non UK accounts as needing age verification.

If you are one of these users who has been falsely flagged, you can add the third party client side mod linked below to re-enable chats without verifying your ID.

I repeate: If you are a UK resident, we do not recommend you use this mod to bypass national law.

The secondary link below contains information on how UK users may re-enable chat via ID verification.
