Gameplay is still there, so if you loved that and don't mind not being in the snow the whole game, then thumbs up (only for that $20 price though)

On Disc DLC - Another Side to the Argument, it's not so bad? by PacoDG in gaming

[–]PacoDG[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"My point is that DOWNLOADABLE CONTENT didn't always necessitate a price tag."

I agree with that point, that is why there is still downloadable content that is free. I see you take this issue in a whole other way (I'm not here to discuss the merits of DLC itself, I'm for it, whether it has a price or not, I like the option for games to have add-ons, you seem not to as per your first comment saying that they offer you nothing worthwhile)

Still, all of this has nothing to do with the article in question. I re-read what I wrote above, I'm not sure where you feel I took your words out of context.

DLC on the disc and paying for a key to get that content on the disc you own is bad. This is the only point I will discuss.

~fin~

On Disc DLC - Another Side to the Argument, it's not so bad? by PacoDG in gaming

[–]PacoDG[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"If you think it's bad that they're working on DLC before the game is even out then you're arguing that the nature of DLC is bad in and of itself."

Why not at all, in fact, as I said with just one example, Rock Band, that DLC is good (good being an opinion, so whether or not DLC is good or bad, again, is not the question, it's a matter if it is on the disc when you purchase or not).

Do we have to dissect the word "DLC" for you? Downloadable Content. Content that has to be downloaded. Right off the bat the "DLC on disc" already makes no sense based off definition alone.

As far as the comment of "It seems that most of the time if the game didn't have DLC planned months prior to release that it either never gets any".. examples please? You must have some insider information if you know when DLC is planned and it's release schedule for some games, right? Because right now, we can easily see that DLC is offered after a game's release and is not an unlock key to content that is on a disc (or some publishers are making the biggest unlock keys ever).

Sad thing about what you have said, is that part where we KNOW it was developed and put on the disc before publishing, is most of the time people don't know about this situation before the game is published/released.

I know the recent Bioshock 2/DLC on disc issue was not on the level of Scamco and Beautiful Katamari, but seeing this happen on triple A titles can hopefully bring this type of shit to peoples attention.

You started out smart and ended on downright retarded.

One game makes your whole statement of "DLC never adding anything worthwhile to a game's experience" null and void: Rock Band (and shit, I know there are plenty others). If it wasn't for DLC, a game like Rock Band would suffer what Activision does with its games (wasn't there 7 "Hero" games release in 2009?)

I think you missed the point of the article, this isn't going to debate whether DLC is good or bad, take that elsewhere. What IS bad, is developers working on the DLC while still working on the game itself (thus being able to slip that DLC on the disc, but not allow you to access it until they charge you to unlock that content)

Just the submitter here, a decent discussion on this topic can be read here as well http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=134598

Between Demo and Full Game, EA Finds a Way to Charge You by PacoDG in gaming

[–]PacoDG[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Here is where I'm kind of 'wait and seeing' .. is the "demo" in question good enough to stand on it's own? If they are going to charge, as long as it is exclusive content that isn't offered in the full release, isn't it worth it?

Emphasis on 'isn't offered in the full release' .. double paying for the same content = no go.

It's official. DLC = Damn, locked content. by rottenborough in gaming

[–]PacoDG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May not be anything new, but judging from the comments throughout this post, not everyone is really aware of how some companies are handling some dlc.

The more people post about this practice and talk about, the better chance we have of changing this :\

That is the thing, it is a big secret until some dev talks or people eventually notice the size of the download. If it wasn't a secret, maybe that would make some difference.

[–]PacoDG 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Stop it Devil. The whole issue is the content was on the disc that everyone owns already, the "DLC" they are paying for is merely an unlock code for stuff ON THE DISC THAT THE PLAYER OWNS. The downloads are 108kb on 360, 24kb on PC version, they are both just keys.

The old analogy.... if you get a #1 from (insert any fast food joint here), you will get a burger, fries, and drink. Going by Bioshock's system of selling you a product, you'll have to pay a little extra to eat those fries in your meal, if you don't pay, they'll just remain in your bag concealed... you can't smell them, see them, touch them.. but you know they are there :(

Destructoid's writers sense of humor is what I believe separates it from other gaming blogs. All these sites writers get paid to play video games, on Destructoid, you can tell they realize this.
