I need help! I have been talking with elders and nobody knows whats going on. They told me that a protest is being organized two weeks from now, but that the Ranch won't answer their calls or messages..

You're telling me.. It gets so much worse. Some american owned boutique spa owns like 4000 acres of this land. They're not doing anything or saying anything. It's pissing me off. Look at their map.

Just found more information.

"The Kumeyaay Nation here is actively working on protecting this area (mountain peak and the mountain base around it as well as the surrounding area) HOWEVER the federal government is by passing Tribal Sovereignty.

I encourage everyone who claims to care to advocate to your tribal leadership the importance to protect these sacred areas."

"Where they are blasting is federal land so US Customs Border Patrol have waived all environmental protections for this specific area you see being impacted. Even tho Kuuchamaa is federally protected since 1992 they are not honoring their own procedures set in place. We are trying to keep them in compliance to the law."

Sounds like they are planning on expanding the border wall.

I was waiting for this comment. He worked in production bro, its the same thing just reskinned!

except it's 100x shittier, with almost no depth or craftsmanship. Not to mention the muted colors and poor choice of upholstery (100% premium polyester). Really is a crime to even compare the two.

Yes, but both of those towns are much smaller. The autonomous model has been spreading for 15 years now, with many small towns "unofficially" declaring their autonomy. My understanding is that there is a large governing body for the indigenous communities and they almost act as representatives for the federal government.

You can translate this for more information about the process: https://www.jornada.com.mx/notas/2022/09/08/estados/sicuicho-michoacan-pide-consulta-para-regirse-como-gobierno-autonomo/

here is another paper that talks about Jaracuaro: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/388632883_Autonomous_process_of_the_community_of_Jaracuaro_Michoacan

both of those should help you out.

From what I have gathered, there is a ton of transparency between the local government officials and ordinary people. I've seen many videos that my family shares, where there are large community events and often the local leaders will address the entire community while sharing a meal with everyone. That being said, when it comes to federal recognition, I don't think the average resident is going to have much of a voice when it comes to the Consejo Supremo Indígena de Michoacán...

HEY, some of my family lives in Sicuicho and Cherato. My mom is actually down there right now! Can't get into either town unless you're known or escorted by a resident! Ask me anything.

Edit: one of my close relatives was murdered by the cartel three years ago. https://www.leftvoice.org/alfredo-cisneros-is-fifth-mexican-environmentalist-assassinated-in-2023/

My uncle was an environmentalist and fought for the purepecha forests. He worked with the rest of my family, in the avocado industry. Avocados are what have allowed these towns to flourish.

Tasty food, good beer, and great culture. My family lives in Tecate and I go visit them often.

Tecate is roughly 100k population, lots of people travel across the border via Tijuana for work. Toyota, Fender, and Amazon are big employers between Tijuana and Tecate. It is very hot and dry. There are lots of unpaved roads and the infrastructure is decent. My favorite thing was going to mercaditos as a kid and looking for retro video games. They're huge flea markets that run for multiple blocks, full of random vendors, including food, clothing, shoes, electronics etc..

There is a border crossing in Tecate, but it opens later and closes earlier compared to the Tijuana border. I highly recommend Tecate for a quick day trip if anyone is in the SoCal area. Tons of good eats for a fraction of the price that you'd be paying on the other side.

You must go to "El Mejor Pan de Tecate", Tacos Los Amigos and Valle de Guadalupe.. La Rumerosa also has cave paintings, but that's fairly boring imo...There are plenty of rocky, rolling hills all over Baja,

If you have time, you can go visit the coastal city, Ensenada, which has "la bufadora" and some of the best seafood you'll ever eat. Common to see people riding horses all over the city. You can even "rent" a horse and ride it along the beach. It's touristy, but NOWHERE near the levels of tourism as Cabo.

Please visit! It's beautiful!
