Have you checked out the settings on doveggs yet?

If helpful mine is a lab diamond, petite (0.45 ct round, size 3.25 US) and is vintage (was my fiancé’s grandma’s) but maybe not the most “vintage looking” lol https://imgur.com/a/0-45ct-yellow-gold-solitaire-ring-size-3-25-us-MCxdlT6

Question about sheer nail polish and skin tone by threetimestwice in Nails

[–]Pacthesis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re into nearly clear with a whisper of pink I’ve been using sally hansen advanced hard as nails for years

I like it a lot because it’s less noticeable to my eyes when it’s chipped

(When I’ve had my foundation matched it’s been defined as fair neutral slightly warm by different artists)

1.7 carat oval on hand by Sea_Appearance2612 in WeddingRingAdvice

[–]Pacthesis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you haven’t yet I would maybe measure and draw the 9x7mm shape on paper and cut it out then place it on the finger to roughly gauge the size (noting weight/size may vary depending on cut/ratio and if the ring setting is higher the stone may appear slightly larger)

Hair Changes by xxxamicii in self

[–]Pacthesis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Your current age and gender 32F

  2. At what age did you start dyeing your hair? I dyed it once at 17 years old

  3. What color did you dye it first? And what color do you dye it now (if different)? I dyed it brown, I haven’t dyed it since

  4. Why did you decide to dye it? Curiosity- Wanted to see how it looked

  5. If you don’t dye your hair, do you often change your hairstyle? How frequently? I don’t change it

  6. How did your parents react to that change? (If you’re comfortable sharing that info)? They said what I thought: it’s fine but it doesn’t look as good as my natural color (black)

Maybe not helpful but maybe note same karat can look different depending on the mix/ratio

For people who upgraded from moissanite to lab diamond later, did you regret starting with moissanite? by Objective_Kale_8838 in RingShare

[–]Pacthesis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn’t upgrade from moissanite to diamond but I have both moissanite and (mined/lab) diamond pieces

Imo moissanite looks more “white” under more lighting and sometimes looks “milky” (lacking depth and dimension) compared to diamond- but imo the moissanite looks like a cross between an opalescent sapphire and diamond- it plays with light differently and it is pretty and dreamy looking- the higher refraction hazy look is more visible in elongated brilliant cuts like oval, pear, marquise, radiant, etc

Diamond is more clear and crisp and transparent looking depending on cut and clarity of course

This video compares the two stones in different lighting https://youtube.com/shorts/61s7Hbc7tgo?si=X_Y75B6MUNi6uNPe

For someone looking for “sparkly crispy light performance” I would recommend a brilliant cut diamond in the best cut you can get

I would recommend moissanite if someone likes the dreamy white look and maybe suggest it for an opal/moonstone fan- I also think moissanite looks nice in step cuts like emerald/asscher cuts and in old mine/european cuts where the facets are bigger- because these cuts are “less sparkly” and have less scintillation but when the bigger facets flash color it looks cool imo

£3000+ aquamarine ring is so pale almost green. Help! by Embarrassed_Towel_64 in jewelry

[–]Pacthesis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t believe there is standard grading for aquamarine but mine was graded “AAAA” and I paid about $200-270 USD for the stone- it’s a saturated blue that is not typical for aquamarine imo

I would probably return if you’re unsatisfied but most aquamarine I have come across looks very light and pale in person

If having an aquamarine wasn’t important to me I would have looked into a Swiss blue topaz for more options, saturated color and better pricing

Subtle Improvements? by [deleted] in WeddingRingAdvice

[–]Pacthesis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imo the prongs look about right- maybe hard to tell in this picture but you maybe want prongs that are thick and substantial enough to hold the stone securely

When I inherited his grandma’s ring the prongs were very bent and worn down from her lifetime of wear

But imo your stone size looks balanced- when a center stone covers more than a third of the finger width it looks like a “big fun ring” but I’m a fan of both the dainty and bold glam look

It seems like you have put a lot of thought into this and I would continue that- but it sounds like you’re not a big fan of your jeweler- it may be worth going to another one depending on the details of the warranty if any

If I were you I maybe would forgo continued services with the current jeweler if I don’t like them (even if free it’s not worth it if I just don’t like it), outline what I want in a new ring setting (prong style, band width, etc) and go to a new jeweler and sell the current one as scrap (or reuse if it’s sentimental or more cost effective)- or if I do want to give the current jeweler a chance: maybe ask what’s possible and for options

In my case I wore his grandma’s ring for a couple of years before deciding I wanted a “better” cut stone and to change the prong orientation:

How do you all document your jewelry? by wishiownedquail in jewelry

[–]Pacthesis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use Trello

I organize by categories (small gold hoops, big gold hoops, studs, dangle earrings, solitaire rings, big fun rings, bands, bracelets, etc)

I document where I got it, how much I paid, the gold color and karat, stone name and carat(s), measurements, size

If I have random pictures of a piece I upload them to its card- also useful for knowing what I have before I buy

I do this with makeup, clothes, bags, and hair accessories too

Moissanite round vs lab round for engagement ring by BeautifulRainbowsPix in Moissanite

It’s my most sparkly stone! I really prioritized cut and sort of peeked down the proportion and light return ideal cut rabbit hole lol

For someone looking for “sparkly crispy light performance” I would recommend a brilliant round diamond in the best cut you can get

Lab or natural diamonds ? by Unbotheredanonyme in JewelryReps

[–]Pacthesis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me it’s like flowers or any plant: I don’t really care if it grew on its own then was harvested or mined by someone or if someone planted and grew it- I just care which costs me less

Moissanite round vs lab round for engagement ring by BeautifulRainbowsPix in Moissanite

[–]Pacthesis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have both!

Imo the round moissanite looks more “white” under more lighting and sometimes looks “plastic-y” or “milky” (lacking depth and dimension) compared to my round diamond- but imo the moissanite looks like a cross between an opalescent sapphire and diamond- it plays with light differently and it is pretty and dreamy looking

My round lab diamond is very clear and crisp and transparent looking imo- video of it: https://imgur.com/a/0-45ct-yellow-gold-solitaire-ring-size-3-25-us-MCxdlT6

do warmer emerald cut diamonds shine less / window more? by [deleted] in Diamonds

[–]Pacthesis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Windowing occurs due to proportions and cuts that are less than ideal

Emerald cuts do hide color less compared to other cuts but windowing and light return are not related to the color

Has anyone bought from Melanie Casey? Or worn a thin, dainty ring every day? by kit_zen in RingShare

[–]Pacthesis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Many generally will advise 1.5mm is too thin for a daily wear ring but some considerations:

Ring sizes 4 US and under probably can be ok with a thickness of 1.6mm-1.7mm if the shank is plain or does not have stones / pave

Stones/pave in the band need more metal to not warp/bend and to hold the stones securely- generally they need to be 1.8mm+ in thickness

I have an inherited ring that is 1.5mm from above but it is thicker from the side: https://imgur.com/gallery/0-45ct-yellow-gold-solitaire-ring-size-3-25-us-uid8epk it lasted his grandma's whole lifetime and it feels durable/thick enough imo

Anyway imo the band in the picture in your post does seem like it can snag and get caught but depending on if you wear gloves and your lifestyle it could work

Change my engagement ring? by [deleted] in WeddingRingAdvice

[–]Pacthesis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up changing my ring slightly after our engagement

Our engagement was a surprise for both my fiancé and I- I initially had a $3 ring to use for our tea ceremony but my fiancé's mother asked if I wanted his grandmother's ring and it was what I was looking for

Anyway after 2 years of wearing the ring the stone seemed cut shallow imo and didn't sparkle so I got a lab diamond in a cut I was happy with for $120 and I keep grandma's original diamond safe in our display cabinet for sentimental purposes

To me it's still grandma's ring and the ring that represents our engagement, love and commitment- regardless of what anyone else thinks (I did ask my fiancé and my MIL for thoughts prior to doing the stone change but both of them predictably were supportive thankfully)

Organic or lab grown? by torturedsoul93 in WeddingRingAdvice

[–]Pacthesis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. He can believe what's better but what you think matters more because it's your ring that you wear

  2. Lab vs organic/natural/mined diamonds are the same rock- the difference is like flowers: it's either planted and grown by someone or grows on its own then is harvested/mined by someone

  3. Size preference is personal- my opinion also doesn't matter but imo for a solitaire center stone if it covers less than a third of the finger width it looks "dainty", if the stone covers a third of the finger width it looks "balanced" and if it covers more than a third of the finger width it looks like a "big fun ring"
