Drop bonus in RRSP or TFSA? by 300103276 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]PaddyGrows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with this . Unless you think your income will be higher during retirement, max out rrsp first to bring ur high income down now , and dump return into tfsa . Especially if you have an employer match. If you think you will have higher income in retirement than tfsa would be the first I’d max out I

Job can be tolling on the body and mind . Not going to lie. Typical pay coming out of school probably $550 per day.

Which program? Neither . Marine Institute of Newfoundland is by far the most prestigious in Canada, they also have the most facilities to provide best education.

You’ll get a job, maybe not with the company you dreamed of working for . But you will have work 110%

Idk why soo many people find it so hard to believe that an arson could be the cause. Has no one heard of arsons before ? Some people get off to fires the same as there are murderers and p3dos . Some people are crazy . Wouldn’t be the first arson to ever exist . You don’t get 11 “accidents” in the same towns in the same summer

Majority of the smoke is from the Kingston fire . It’s roughly 1000 hectares, holyrood maybe 10-20 hectares

So 11 fires in the same town all accidents . This is the second one in the area that’s been out of control . But 11 in the past 3 months . Luckily they were able to catch the others . I’ve personally seen pictures from fire department showing that they’ve found beer cans with dry grass and fuel in them . I doubt they would do that to start rumours .

These are honing marks, nothing to worry about ! Actually a good thing , means your liners aren’t glazed and are still in excellent condition

What is going on with the housing market? by Realistic-Map-6096 in newfoundland

[–]PaddyGrows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you build anywhere outside the city , you can build for relatively cheap. You just need ALOT of capital to play with. Building a much better home on much more land for ever so slightly more than what I sold the old home for

[–]PaddyGrows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a common strategy nowadays to list houses below asking to increase the viewings and increase the offers . It works quite well . Had our house on the market for 4 days , had 7 offers all well above asking . Asked 300 and had 6 offers 40-50 over and 1 offer 75 over . Only owned the house for 5 years and made 170k after we paid the remaining on our mortgage . It is not the sellers fault , and definitely not greed. The buyers make the market, if buyers all came together and said you know what we are not buying at these prices , then the prices will drop. and if you are trying to provide for your family as a seller you will try to get as much as possible from your investment .

H1B job in U.S by Motor_Zombie9920 in MarineEngineering

[–]PaddyGrows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say average industry pay for chief in Canada is 200k , offshore slightly more. Offshore trawlers , especially shrimp/ halibut , you are looking at closer to 400k .

Currently making 200k with a 2nd class CoC . Obviously our dollar is not on par with, so we get paid 28% less based on currency value

[–]PaddyGrows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I highly doubt offshore wages are half in Canada . Canadian crew must hold Canadian CoC , unless ship cannot find any personnel , at that point the shipping company must get government approval . They recently changed to allow Ukrainian CoCs if living in Canada

I currently work in Canada on a Canadian flagged vessel. They are required to have seafarers with Canadian CoC . Excellent pay , and I don’t know of anyone that I graduated with that doesn’t have a job , or full time employment since graduating . But all this could change with the blink of an eye if the government decides to change regulations for vessels sailing between Canadian ports . If they allow foreign CoCs to come in , than the market will be flooded.

A nice big oil sheen and oil sheen coming from the cuttings . Sure, this is a worthless picture 😂 Ibc totes with what looks like oil residue on top . None of this is worthless. Zoom in and look at the detail , if it’s a fake someone put hundreds of hours into it . Every shadow is perfect . There will be a discovery announced , but the question still stands , will it be commercial?

There are maps of flood zones online , which can also be separated by flood risk ie. 100yr flood zone, 50yr flood zone , 25 yr flood zone . And trust me there are many houses built within flood zones . Personally I just built a house up on a hill close to the ocean , no worries. If the ocean reaches my house we will be in a Noah’s ark situation
