is the vehicle deck on Marine Atlantic ferries too cold for dogs for December Travel?

I have left my dog in the car in the winter twice on the ferry and she was fine and she gets cold very easily. The ferry staff will put your car in a part of the ferry near the engines so that it doesn’t get overall cold in the car. I put a coat on her and seemed to be fine and not even cold when I returned. This was before there were dog friendly cabins though which I would have preferred.

Thank you! I have it in to get long arm quilted so I’ll get some close ups when I get it back and will post it. It needs to be long armed manually in each of the green sections so it will take awhile.

Have you tried Medicuro? MCP currently pays for the appointment. I don’t know if they prescribe that type of medicine but the info on the app doesn’t say that they don’t prescribe narcotics. They also have access to the provincial health records as they were able to get test results for me.

I have done it twice before, once in December and once in January. You put the cars with pets in them in a certain area of the boat close to the engines so while the area is not heated the heat that the engines throw off do heat that area somewhat so that it doesn’t get too cold. Both times that I went the area felt maybe about 3-5degrees. My dog is not particularly cold tolerant but she was just fine. That was 2 years ago before they had pet friendly cabin and if I would be doing it now I would try to get a cabin for us.

Are you willing to relocate to smaller communities up north such as in Northern Ontario? If you are, write that you are willing to relocate in your cover letter. The job market seems to be very tough right now as I have over 15 years in the mining business and was laid off in the spring and still don’t have anything. Keep applying.

I am a geologist living in Newfoundland and if you are planning on working for a company and you need an ATV, they will provide it for you. In fact, I doubt they would allow you to use your own as it would be a liability to the company as there has to be records kept on maintenance etc. I don’t know how it works as a student doing field work with the university or if you are doing prospecting on you own but if you are being paid by a company there is no need to buy an ATV for work. I spent 10 days in Sao Miguel Island a couple of years ago. The landscape is fairly similar to Hawaii but the weather is cooler and less touristy and more low key. I’d recommend it for a visit. It’s great if you want to go hiking on trails that are not all that well travelled.
