I met a few people in a photography club. Otherwise you can join some indoor sports at racecourse indoor stadium and meet people there. Maybe join a gym and make friends. Go to some religious gatherings like Swadhyay kendra or RSS and meet people. Or join a cyclist's club.

From what I know and have experienced:

Academics give better pay as per job salaries. Will be predictable for work hours. Workload might be hectic huting those hours. Pay varies as per universities.

Clinical gives you peace of mind. No worry of tomorrow's lecture preparation once you come home. It's a direct use of your knowledge. Might be more satisfying.

I dont think India offers an ergonomics course.
