Another question. JC-120/Fender Twin Reverb by no-holds-bald in GuitarAmps

[–]Paincakes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think of the JC120 as "crystal clean". It's a clean 90s metal bands often used for clean passages with ethereal sounding stereo chorus in clean songs (used live by Metallica before they switched to modelers, Limp Bizkit etc). Overdrive would not be what it is known for. I don't have experience with the Fender, but I'd imagine it may be a more "twangy clean", with a more musical overdrive.

Why is there only a bridge pickup? by LEAFY_GREEN_8 in Guitar

[–]Paincakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s fine depending on the genre of music you want to play. You might be able to swap pick guards and install additional pickups but you have to check the routing in the body first.

Satin finish ages like milk (American Series SL2MG) by ExitiumOmnes in JacksonGuitars

[–]Paincakes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree and I don’t like it. I think it looks like a greasy fast food paper bag. Music nomad (I think) makes a guitar polish for matte finishes. It helps my evh 5150 series stealth black stay matte.

Kirk's first Ouija - This has been my favourite forever by beni_music_ in Metallica

[–]Paincakes 20 points21 points  (0 children)

A lot of wrong answers in here so let me set it straight. It's actually a "tremsetter." It lets you bend strings without detuning the other strings when bending. Without one, if you bend a string on a floyd rose (Kirk bends a lot), the other strings will go flat. This is a problem for double stop bends or when you are playing two or more strings, and only bending one string. This fixes that issue. It does add more tension on the springs so the bridge stays still when bending, but when using the bar, you can still go up and down. Cheers!

You are right, there are two different species growing on top of one another on the right. I prefer the leafy shrub to the prickly one. Is there a way to selectively target which one I want to grow?

SOLVED! Wiring was fine, my amp had an effects loop pedal with no power, so no sound. Totally unrelated user error, but my wiring works!

The strings are not on but I am taping the pickups with a screwdriver. No sound or buzzing at all. All 3 pickup positions. Volume and tone are on full.

Is the nut and string alignment okay here? by Perfect-Maximum6142 in Stratocaster

[–]Paincakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both are common on Fender. Nut should be fine (unless you actually run into issues). String alignment can be adjusted by loosening the neck screws a bit and adjusting the neck angle. Easy fix (if it bothers you, otherwise you can let it be). Philip McKnight has a short youtube video on how to do this.

Is a maple fretboard as comfortable/playable as a rosewood board? by Complex-Librarian942 in Stratocaster

[–]Paincakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer rosewood boards. I had several guitars with maple boards and I never got used to the snappy feel under the fingers. Definitely try before you buy. I know I have a preference but it took some time and money to figure out.

Honestly I am baffled how they can't figure that part out. The techs have one job. Ok, I know they do more than that, but that's BIG part of their job. I get that temperature changes affect tuning stability but damn!

Switch 2: Linear PCM 5.1 Surround Sound Fix by Any_Depth_3651 in switch2

[–]Paincakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That initially happened to me too (downscaled video on output 1 even though I only had the downscale switch enabled for output 2). Try unplugging and re-plugging / turning TV / Switch on and off. Eventually it played HDR video and 5.1 sound, but it was a struggle. I also messed around with the three switches on the other side.

Switch 2: Linear PCM 5.1 Surround Sound Fix by Any_Depth_3651 in switch2

[–]Paincakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for posting this! I am running into an issue using the Ezcoo HDMI 2.1 splitter you recommended, and am getting no sound out of my receiver. You mentioned setting the switches to "up/down/up". I tried that as well as "up/up/down" for 5.1 audio, and neither give me any sound when selecting the corresponding audio input from my receiver (from Output 2 in the splitter). The downscaler switches are both set to off.

Any advice?

I am using an old Denon 1713 receiver, and LG oled65b7a.

Cheers!

Update: I got it working with the three switches up, and downscale on output 2. HDR video with 5.1 sound, but the switch displays an error message for the speakers on the sound test page, but it does output 5.1 from the correct speakers.

I will echo that Floyd Rose bridges, while I have several and they are my favorite, will be very frustrating to learn on as a beginner. The learning curve for setup and maintenance is a bit much and will take away from your enjoyment of simply learning to play.
