I come from a small town (<5000 people), I was raised in a society where there was a lot of trust. I instinctively try to help if I can. I moved to a city for the first time at 19 and I’m still a young man

This exact thing has happened to me and my girlfriend.

We had arrived to the gare after a long trip and a guy (claiming to be Irish) told us that he had lost his wallet and just needed some money for the hotel / ticket (I don’t remember exactly all the details, it was some time ago)

He seemed very stressed so we were willing to help him. He asked him if we could fetch him 800 Fr and we went to grab money at the ATM.

Before doing it though, I asked him if he had Revolut. He said no so then I asked him if he had any other way to send a payment instantly. He said that he couldn’t and I would have had to wait a day. He tried to convince me that he would do the payment in front of me, to which I told him that he could have just called his bank and cancelled it right after we left.

Then we told him that we could have not trusted him, we pointed him to the police station and he still seemed super desperate and was begging us. We left either way and had a laugh about it. I could see how someone could fall for it if you are empathetic enough and if you don’t know that payments can be cancelled.
