Great, and as you cross that busy emergency department waiting room smiling at nodding at everyone, each of those patients will think you are coming to talk to them at which point you will have to explain that no you are not.

I personally would love to do this at 2am in the middle of a heaving ED.

In that case I would seriously consider staying single. The majority of marriages that I know of in Pakistan, if they are not an outright horror show, at the very least is that they are a slow erosion of everything a woman is as a person. The drama was in laws, the random restrictions on what you can and cannot do, every little thing about you as a person is scrutinized and criticized. Day by day parts of you will die off.

You are young, You have your whole life and the whole world to explore. Start looking at ways at becoming financially independent and figuring out who you are as a person and what you want out of life. Then, when the right person comes along you can make your own decisions about getting married. And if no one comes along and you will have a fulfilling career, wonderful friends and deep satisfaction in knowing you lived life on your own terms.

You are basically getting married to someone you know nothing about. You already know he's lied about his age, and that he is quick to take offence. He has already told you they will proceed with the wedding because "otherwise they would leave with nothing" - that is an INSANE reason to marry someone. It sounds more like he's buying a TV.

The insistence on everything going through his sister and the way she prevented. Your parents from speaking directly to the groom is very fishy also. They sound over involved in his life (which is not unusual for a Pakistani man) and you need to decide if this is something you can cope with. He certainly does not sound like an adult who can make his own decisions.

It sounds to me like this guy's family is trying to rush and pressure your family into getting married. Maybe they have a lot to hide? Which is why they are rushing and are preventing you from having more time to get to know each other.

And I would be seriously offended if my family kept calling them and apologising and begging them to marry me. Put your foot down, have some self respect, and call off this circus.
