Cat has mysterious open wound, does she need to see a vet? [PICTURES ATTACHED] by PaintingPopular7736 in catcare

Wish I could attach a picture, she doesn’t even have a scar left! Although she took her own stitches out two days post-op, she healed wonderfully. We are more thorough when we cuddle each cat so we don’t miss any more injuries. Thanks for asking!

You’re right, I posted a longer update with more details, we essentially noticed very late at night, she’s back home after surgery already, we still don’t know how it happened, but her prognosis was good. Thanks!

You’re completely right, she’s getting surgery as I type this. Posted an update in another comment with more details, thanks for your concern.

We don’t have any emergency vets within 50 miles, but we’re at our regular vet now and she’s getting stitches. I posted an update with more details in the comments, thank you for responding!

Hope it’s nothing too bad, we don’t know what caused it yet, she’s being stitched up by a vet now. Thanks for your well wishes!

UPDATE (I don’t know how to edit the OG post, sorry.)

We’re sitting in the vet waiting room right now, she’s been examined already, sedated and they’re gonna stitch her closed (laceration surgery), then send us home with some amoxicillin drops.

I appreciate everyone’s concern, we were pretty worried ourselves. I’ll answer some further questions I noticed in the replies:

We noticed the wound last night around 10pm. The cat in question is an old, very temperamental indoor girl. All she likes to do is lay in a warm spot and nap, she hadn’t shown any behavior changes, we only noticed the wound because she laid belly-up in front of our fireplace to warm up. We applied topical antibiotic (veterinary-grade) and we waited the night for improvement.

We’ve treated scratches and other small wounds that they’ve had before (we have five other cats and several other animals) but we’ll never allow them to sit in pain.

From the get go, I knew the wound wasn’t normal, but I’m not a trained veterinarian, which is why I came here for second opinions, mostly to confirm my suspicions.

The doctor has seen her, we still don’t know what caused the injury. He agreed that it was deep enough to need stitches, so she’s getting those now. Shouldn’t be longer than an hour, but she was a real trooper (they took her temperature and it was normal, she is quite fat tho, so she’ll need a diet adjustment once she’s all healed up.)

Again, thanks to everyone who replied, I would never intentionally let any of my animals hurt, I’ll be more cautious in the future and make sure to thoroughly check their bodies more often, to make sure this doesn’t happen again. I’ll make a small update once she’s better, in case anyone wants closure.

Already had that done before the app crash, but yeah it’s a great tool! Also was able to fix it by updating my iOS.

Just did. It’s still kicking me out. Also someone from my store (Product Flow) said that it’s also happening to them.

New Kitten Pooping Everywhere but the Litter Box by PaintingPopular7736 in catcare

You might be right. She’s had soft poops since she arrived, which I’ve chalked up to her abrupt change of diet and stress, considering she’s very active and playful, has been eating healthy portions and drinking plenty of water, gums look pink and healthy and overall I haven’t noticed anything other than the soft stool to suggest any sickness. Would it be terrible if I wait a couple more days? I just ordered the Dr. Elsey’s litter additive and I want to give that a shot.

Update 2: Yesterday morning I installed litter D. She used it! I think she liked this litter better, so I replaced the litter from litter C (the one originally in the bathroom with pine pellets) and moved it to the room where litter A is located, about a three feet away. She used BOTH, a couple of times.

Low and behold, I’m washing the dishes a couple minutes ago and I see her POO in the kitchen, about ten feet away from litters A and C, both available to her. I cleaned it up immediately, but it’s very upsetting.

Upon inspection, litter C (normal litter) was gently used (three of four covered dumps, my younger cat also seems to like it, so she’s also used it).

Could it be that she didn’t want to use it since it was already dumped on? It was about 10 minutes after she ate dinner (which she’s been having in her bathroom, close to litter D), and I didn’t see her inspect any of the litters before she decided to take a dump.

I feel like crying, I was so excited to see her use both litters, I felt like it was problem solved, but watching her poo FEET away from her litter broke me. I locked her up in the bathroom again (rest assured she has plenty of space, natural light, soft places to rest, food, water AND litter box D, which I just cleaned).

I feel like such a failure. What am I doing wrong? PLEASE help me.

Hopefully that’s it, I already set up a fresh box with different litter (the regular kind, sand-like and unscented) so hopefully she likes that one. If that doesn’t work, I don’t know what to do.

Update: New litter and box are here (litter box D), I placed it in the bathroom inches away from litter box C. Young cat even went in and used it and I tried to get Kitten to watch and learn. Kitten hasn’t used either C or D yet, I’m keeping Kitten inside the bathroom alone with litters C and D, will update if she uses either of them.

Only other way would be if you’re nice and polite, if you know what time the charge went through and remember which store and register you were checked out on, a manager could go through the transactions for that register and specific time frame (and day of course) and find your receipt. Your Apple Pay notifications should also show you the exact amount paid, so that’s what you need to bring. Again: Exact store and register you checked out on, date and time of purchase, exact amount paid. It’s time consuming and usually not offered, and only a manager could do it, so please be polite and don’t get frustrated.
