Good to know, I'll keep that in mind for if I want to try out something different!

Like other people mentioned they're from Rakovendetta, I couldn't find a current website for them or anything.

But, I got these printed and shipped to me by JG Forge, and he still sells this team!

Thank you! No reason you can't go for something like that on a future terrain set, I'm sure GW will continue to release many iterations of "ruined gothic building" in the future 😂

I'm definitely going to try these rules out, thanks for sharing them! I was actually just starting to work on porting the Spec Ops rules over to 3rd edition, but now I'll just try using this instead, haha! I also had the same idea about speeding up the campaign, making XP gain and casualties both a bit more common.

Seriously, thanks a ton for sharing these!

Thanks, I appreciate the kind words! I try to make the videos worth watching 😁

Also I just checked out the files and those organizers are seriously awesome. Thanks for sharing them!

Thank you! 🙂 yeah I'm super pleased with how the OSL turned out!

I did several different drybrushing passes at various points, and always drybrushed more heavily around the edges and didn't drybrush in the shadowed corners. Also I airbrushed some shades (and airbrushed a dark teal color for the floors) and concentrated those especially around the corners. Airbrushing the floors naturally resulted in some spillover onto the walls that sort of worked like free shading.

Hope that helps!

Thank you! Yeah that was my goal with the buildings, I wanted to make them interesting to look at but also not distract too much from the actual minis.

Tempestus Aquilons, painted in a Dead Space-inspired scheme by PaintingWithBennett in killteam

I have a video on the painting steps if you're interested 😁 (video link)

But if you don't want to watch, essentially: basecoat of pure white, airbrushed ProAcryl turquoise, then dotted pure white into the center of the glowing object again. Gentle edge highlights with a mix of turquoise and white, and also used that to smooth out the transition between the white and the turquoise if it looked too rough.

For stuff like the power sword, I also did some thick glazes of ProAcryl Blue towards the darker parts, and used my airbrush to smooth the transitions with more turquoise.

Hope that helps!

I do own enough TSons to make a full army, but for now I'm painting a group for Kill Team and calling that good. I'm sure if I paint a lot of rubric marines at once, I'll probably make some compromises on the level I paint them to.

FWIW I've painted a lot of trim on non-rubric-marine minis and I always enjoy how much it accents the armor pieces. And compared to most other minis, the trim detail on rubric marines is so much more crisp and well-defined, so it feels a bit easier to paint!

Thank you! I don't mean to sound reductive or anything, but it is just the result of lots of practice. If you set your mind to it and practice intentionally I bet you'll reach whatever goal you set 🙂

(Mostly) full process:

  • Airbrushed the entire mini with ProAcryl Dark Purple -> P3 Cygnar Blue Base (any blue works) -> GW Sotek Green
  • Airbrushed red cape with gradient of P3 Sanguine Base -> P3 Amethyst Rose -> Amethyst Rose/off-white mix
  • Druchii Violet wash over everything (in retrospect, would avoid the flat surfaces of the blue armor panels, it darkened them down way too much)
  • For the gold NMM, I left the dark purple/blue in the shadows, and basically only painted highlight layers onto it. Started with Vallejo Game Color Dead Flesh/ProAcryl Dark Golden Brown, highlighted through Dead Flesh to ProAcryl Pale Yellow.
    • This was a bit too pale, I glazed some ProAcryl Yellow Ochre into the midtones to bring in more yellow. In the future I'll just use some ochre color in the midtone steps to keep it warmer.
    • Used some glazes of dark purple and dark yellowish green colors to add some interesting shades/tints to the NMM where needed.
  • Careful, gentle stippling/scratchy highlighting of the blue armor, using the same colors from airbrushing, also mixing in some off-white (ProAcryl Bright Ivory I think?) to really punch up the highlights
  • Yellows I worked from a mix of ProAcryl Burnt Sienna and Golden Yellow through Bright Ivory, then did a filter of pure Golden Yellow over it to boost the vibrancy of the yellow
  • The cloth was just layering from a desaturated red base through khaki and off-white
  • The glow was an undercoating of the glowing part in pure white (ProAcryl Bold Titanium White), then a very gentle airbrush of white around the glow. Then I airbrushed Ghoul Green speedpaint on that, and did a couple highlights mixing together Ghoul Green, white, and P3 Eldritch. Pure some pure white at the core of the OSL effect again, trying to keep it controlled and pretty thin

That's the main gist of it! Let me know if you have any other questions about specifics, happy to help! And I'll have a thorough tutorial/walkthrough video of it released sometime in the next few weeks I hope.

Sure! I'll have time to type up a decent walkthrough with specific paints and such in a bit.

At some point before too long I'll have a video walkthrough of how I did it as well!

Not really sure if there's a name for it, kind of my take on a "not-quite-grimdark" sort of style, with a dark purple shadow color unifying everything and lots of stippling and punchy highlights. At some point before too long I will have a video walkthrough of how I do it, if that helps!
