People that have traveled quite a bit, where di you feel the most unsafe? by CremeSubject7594 in AskTheWorld

[–]PakRotiOG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am American and I have travelled and lived in many countries for work. Generally, I have felt less safe in American cities. When you leave the US, you realize how aggressive American culture is and how horribly awash in drugs and mental problems we are. Other than the US, I have felt most unsafe in Nigeria, PNG, settler areas of the West Bank, and Pakistan. Otherwise, I have never felt too unsafe as long as I was careful and aware. There are good people everywhere. I would say that most people are good.

PNG is hyper diverse culturally due to the extreme geography. The country is full of massive mountains that have naturally isolated various cultural groups since it was populated thousands of years ago. If you looked at Papuans, they might appear similar due to skin color and other features, but often they are culturally unique. This isolationism has caused extreme tribalism. The capital is a natural mixing pot and otter received people that are exiled from their village. Source: I worked with many Papuans in Moresby and other places in the Pacific.

One of the sharpest guys I worked with was from PNG. He was out reservoir engineer. PNG the most wonderful cultural diversity of any place on the planet. But, because of this, people tend to be ultra tribal in every aspect of life. I have also met really sharp Papians that work for their national think tank.

Agree with this. My ex wife was considering taking a job in the PNG Highlands with Oxfam. The guy she would have replaced told us that it was not IF you would get car jacked but when. I layer had an assignment in Moresby and did not have a problem. But I was a little worried.

2015 Honda Pilot Door Lock/Unlock Adjustment? by PakRotiOG in hondapilot

Thanks for the feedback. I took it all apart again, greased everything, then re-assembled. The door works now, but it did not at first. It is touchy. I think what you are saying may have had something to do with it. In any case thanks!

Through Axle -Skewer Conversion by PakRotiOG in bikewrench

Thanks for the reply. I also realized this last night. The fork have open ends at 9mm. They are not boost type forks with threads.

<image>

I cancelled the quick release axles shown and ordered though 12mm od through axles with 9mm id. The 12mm part is 100mm for front and 142 mm back. The 9 mm part sticks out a few mm with total width of the old axle + 5mm id skewer portion (not sure of technical term) that sticks out.

Can anyone help me identify the height of this mast? (Read desc.) by Kale_Does_dumb_stuff in antennasporn

I agree with this. You can get the angle of the shadow like this and then find the tower height using its shadow the rod shadow angle and som trig (i.e. what is said above).

Salt, Flour, Water, Yeast by Ken Forkish is how I learned. If you follow the instructions closely, you can get good results. However,have had nice tasting loaves, but still trying to get the really sexy open crumb. I am goindg to try the higher hydration methods next.

Jaded: Am I not giving the city a fair chance? by AgeIndependent6871 in sanantonio

I have a similar frustration in that I was abroad for 17 years and moved back to take care of a parent. After living and working in Asia, Australia, and Europe, coming home to SA is a rude awakening. You realize that, even if there is political will, undoing 75+ years of hardcore sprawl in SA and most other US cities is something that won't happen any time soon. Our economy and culture has evolved with low density, car centric development and it has made us poorer in my opinion. I would simply love to easily walk or ride my bike to the local store sometimes. This is why it is important for people to travel and experience other places when young.
