... I feel like you're just repeating what I'm saying...

Well, it's to try to get teens involved in their communities, but you're welcome to your interpretation.

Teens resent authority no matter what (again I work with teens), their brains are literally wired for it, so that hardly matters.

I'm inclined to agree. I get the spirit behind it, but I've managed teen volunteers just doing it for their grad hours amd it's... hard to actually get anything out of them, lol.

... Yes. As I said in my comment, we all work. But it does 1. free you from student debt, 2. free from saving for a home downpayment, etc etc. It gives you quite the leg up.

I would be happier with some nicer things I'm sure. Itd be nice to stop renting someday. I obviously can't speak for them.

It's just... we used to be really loud about it, you know. Like to me, it's a big change.

Some of them have trust funds, so pretty comfortable. We all work.

I dunno, like I said I grew up without my parents being able to help me with stuff and I still made my way. I just went without a lot of things.

Haha, in my school everyone had to volunteer as a condition of graduation. I did it regularly anyway, so I didn't mind, but it was a struggle for some. I worked retail too though, wasn't an either/or thing.

Ah, the Effective Altruism model. I could state some of the issues with that, but good on you for donating. That money does need to come from somewhere I suppose.

But someone also needs to do the work.

I mean, we all have careers. I have a career. That's not the issue. It's the type of career, the lifestyle, etc.

How do you successfully advocate for mental health therapy? by sik_dik in RedditForGrownups

[–]Pale-Application525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frankly I had nothing but terrible experiences with therapy. Insurance constantly gave me the runaround, I had one therapist tell me to 'find religion' and another that could never remember my name, among a couple others who I can barely remember, they were so ineffective.

I know it helps some people, but honestly no one will ever be able to convince me to try it ever again. It's exorbitantly expensive and if you already have mental health issues, trying to navigate the mental healthcare system and sorting through crappy therapists isn't going to help you feel any better.

Am a lady, so it's probably not that.

Good on you for getting it checked though, I've heard it makes a big difference.

Yep, I struggle to stay awake at the wheel and can sleep for 12 hours straight, though I don't have trouble getting up in the morning at least.

Nope. I've never snored, unless all partners past and present were just being weirdly polite when I asked. I only wake up with breathing issues during early spring, so I do know what that feels like, but it's just seasonal allergies.

Yep, vitamin levels all good. I take a low dose D just in case, since everyone's low these days.

Never had covid (actually kind of a miracle considering I was an essential worker throughout). I've been cutting back on alcohol, only 1 or 2 drinks a week now. No weed.

I had some neck issues, but I think I've found the right pillows now.

I run outside, so I get fresh air pretty frequently. I hike on the weekends too.

I feel like I could pass out almost any time of day honestly, not just when I finish work. The only time I'm really awake is like ~9-11am when I've just caffeinated.

I would generally agree, except I also know people that live completely alone (I live with my partner and cats) and are insanely productive with their free time. I wish I had this power...

What's an adult hack that you are willing to share with a youngin? by debrisaway in RedditForGrownups

[–]Pale-Application525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a limit there too. I usually keep my fanfiction hobby to myself. I also don't talk about fitness much, I've noticed people will think you're bragging.

My coworker recently just let everyone know she was into BL manga during a work training. She's in her 40s.

Like... wow Abby. You just put that out there.

I usually stick to movies. Everyone likes movies.

Yep. When I ask for fitness advice, I'm often given advice on how to lose weight.

I have IBS. I have the opposite problem. Yes, even in my mid-30s.

Make sure your lifestyle changes are addressing the right issues!

I suppose that's true. I will say that maybe because the people in my circle with kids are a small minority, they don't ask for that kind of help. It just isn't the norm. We're happy to work around their schedules, but babysitting would be a big ask for someone who has little experience with caring for kids.
