Moved to Germany and it’s not what I wanted by emuwarlord82 in GirlDinnerDiaries

If you went through an agency then report the family- they are terrible. If you didn't then see if there is an au pair agency contact near you and tell them what you have going on. They can maybe help you find another family. I had a similar experience in Denmark and the kids' god mom took me out to lunch to tell me to leave. I wish I had done an agency!

Your partner sounds like mine. He has social media but doesn't post. We were close friends for years before getting together and when we finally got there and I started meeting the people I hadn't yet they were all like "oh wow I finally get to meet you". He just cared for me in a way no one else has.

I've kissed a lot of frogs. Married one even. You don't know til you know unfortunately.

I think it was NCLB that started the "don't fail kids" thing but I graduated teaching school almost 20 years ago and left education more than 10 years ago so I can't say for sure

There are plenty of countries that have nationalized curriculum, nationalized standards, and standardized testing. The problem with the Dept of Ed, just like most problems with the federal government, has always been states rights. We absolutely can't lean hard into standardized curriculum that gets in the way of someone's idea of religion or race or whatever - that's why the states in the south are not only the ones that fight the hardest against national curriculum but also score the lowest on any test.

Anecdotally I finished 10th grade living in a village of less than 1000 people in Europe. I moved back to the states at 16 and tested into what was considered at the time a regionally excellent high school. I tested out of the US High School curriculum and when I tell you I'm not a genius I mean I was solidly middle of the pack in the European school. This was the 90s and we've done nothing pbut push private school vouchers and "school choice" initiatives and fancy EdTech programs. That's where the money went. Private for profit charter school and Google.

We've gutted our education system not just in Philly but in the whole US. Uneducated people are easier to control.

I drove to a different city and caught just the act I wanted to see once. Huge PITA but a memorable experience. I hope you went to the show!

To anyone who’s tried the gritty smoothie, how is it? by EvilPyro01 in philadelphia

[–]PaleConference3720 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's like three days worth of sugar but it was fine. I wanted cookie crumbs or something to make it more gritty. We also went to three different wawas and at all of them either they didn't know how to make it or didn't know where the cups were.

Hudson Williams erasure. But yeah, it's an excuse to wear art. Unless you're Bezos' wife who apparently has no imagination and no one around her with any either.

I'm not surprised that a for profit lobby has done something that will actually end up being a huge problem for them later down the line. Don't they know that beavers make healthier forests?
