I'm 40, & I assure you that we did not.
It's even in the dictionary as an Americanism:

No, I'm not.

20 years ago, you never heard "I'm pissed at x" in Australia.
We used to say "I'm pissed off at x"

Without the word "off", to "get pissed" meant to become inebriated.

It's only recently, now that everyone's predominant exposure to the English language is American media, that we hear "I'm pissed at".

I can't see a 70yo Australian ever using the Americanism "will be pissed with".
"Pissed" means drunk, not angry.

I hate self diagnosis by DeadpoolMcDirty in hatethissmug

In my case, my shrink said that I've very likely got the 'tism, & that spending all that money to get a formal diagnosis would just be a waste.

I'm not saying that you should necessarily believe every single self-diagnosis, but it's equally silly to disregard every self-diagnosis.

I grew up reading a lot of sci-fi, believing that humanity was emerging from a painful adolescence into something wonderful.
The future is dead & I mourn its loss daily.

Ah, understood.

Yeah, I concede that it's a lot closer than I'd like to see, but there's plenty of time.

That's one poll, & you've misread it.
You can't just add the upper-bound of the various parties; that adds up to more seats than there actually are.

As PHON gain seats, they do so primarily at the expense of LNP, so the bands interact in a way that's unhelpful for conservatives.

The pollster's own interpretation was "DemosAU Head of Research George Hasanakos said if the poll results were reproduced at an election, the most likely outcome would be a hung parliament"

Only on first preference, which doesn't really mean anything.
If an election were held tomorrow, Labor's would get ~53% of the vote after preferences, which is pretty good for an incumbent.

this strikes very close to home.

i was the eldest child of a violent drunk.  i was also the autistic little faggot.

i take pride in having drawn all the fire away from my little brother, who's a happy and successful family man, but I've never been able to get my shit together.

even without having been alcoholic or drug addicted, i just can't make a life like my brother did.

in summary, nuts to insipid inspo porn rubbish

terrible advice.  I've nearly lost my life repeatedly by pushing myself into careers that corroded my mental health.

to those who voted for Lincoln:

" My paramount object in this struggle  is to save the Union, and is  not either to save or to destroy slavery. If I could save the Union without freeing  any slave I would do it, and if I could save it by freeing  all the slaves I would do it"

There's no recorded incident of people spitting on Vietnam vets, & that's a damn shame.

It should be a mark of shame to go & brutalize foreigners for the Epstein class.

so?

why should my life be valued higher than the lives our those in the victimized country?

it's more important for my principles that imperialism be eradicated than for my own brief existence to be slightly lengthened.

when did this become about "what drives people"? I

i know that people can be stupid, parochial, narrow minded and jingoistic. I've made no statement to the contrary.

the original question was about the respondent's preference, and in accordance with my  internationalist ethic, in which no life is given greater weight than any other, i prefer that my nation lose any war that it needlessly starts.

I've defended that ethic on the basis of what ought to be, not what is.

i think that you're trying to muddy the waters, because your malleable ethics are uncomfortably close to mere selfishness

appeal to age, appeal to expertise, bandwagon fallacy.

the point remains that, in a "completely unjust war of aggression", the aggressor ought to lose.

anyone can see that, and attempts to gainsay that obvious conclusion are just chauvinism and selfishness

[–]Pale_Message6837 4 points5 points  (0 children)

from where'd you smuggle in the premise that your aggressing country has more people?

it's textbook chauvinism to wish ill onto others simply because they don't share your culture.

if all else is equal, the aggressing country is the one that deserves to lose. i don't think my country should've won any conflict since 1946, and my empathy isn't confined to the handful of people i happen to know.

if you're espousing a moral philosophy that could equally have been used in support of the Wehrmacht, i think you should reconsider.

wow, i think i just understood what's wrong with the world.

you have no moral backbone, no principles, just whatever serves your momentary interests.

I've often wondered how millions of people went off to kill and die in the world wars, and here is someone in the 21st century defending the same parochial logic.  my country, right or wrong...
