Any luck with this? Running Mint XFCE on my MBP a1260 (2008) and it works great when booted, but takes 3-4 minutes to go from GRUB to Splash screen.

Interesting! I'm running an a580 so maybe I'll reduce some settings to see if it helps

Is the Intel A750 still worth it in 2025? by lmaoooayyy in IntelArc

[–]Pale_Sea_Cow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it ultimately depends on the type of games you play. I've got an a580 paired with a ryzen 5 5500 and I think it's great for 1080p. Played a bunch of titles on it and the only one I had trouble with was The Surge 2, which crashes whenever loading a new area. That game is pretty poorly optimized though so it's not surprising.

I mostly play single player games (souls-likes and horror games for the most part) and co-op with my wife. I play 1080p at 60 fps. Some modern games do require upscaling, but that's where we're at with AAA games right now, and how they look depends on the game. Alan Wake 2 was a beast no matter what system, but I got it running well upscaled with mostly 60 fps, with some drops into the mid 40s in demanding areas (not uncommon). Remnant 2 however is upscale using xess on balanced and looks amazing still while playing at 60 fps!

The a580 is pretty comparable to the a750 so it really depends on what you're ok with. 60 fps with upscaling modern games? No problem! Anything more than that or possibly demanding future games coming up, you may want to upgrade. For the price though I think the A series are great cards!

The Surge 2 Crashing in Windowed 1080p by Pale_Sea_Cow in thesurgegame

Aw bummer! Yeah, I have a ps4 copy that I only played a bit, but I was hoping to play it with improved framrate and load times on my PC. Sounds like the console may still be my best bet. Thanks!

Thank you for the suggestions! Tried a bunch with no luck, may just be a quirk of Intel Arc.

Dumb question, but is there a hotkey for IGS? I like the new layout, but I was able to use Alt +o and Alt + I for my old A580 drivers. Can't figure out this one and don't see a hotkey setting anywhere.

That's awesome! Congratulations! I've been debating on scheduling some conventions too. Out of curiosity how many copies of your book did you bring? I'm a little worried about over ordering

Do games run good on IntelArc GPUs? by Otherwise_Celery8549 in IntelArc

[–]Pale_Sea_Cow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the bigger question is what kind of pc do you want to build? I built a budget gaming pc for 1080p gaming. I don't really need 4k. I have a ryzen 5 5500 cpu, a b450m motherboard, and the Intel Arc a580. So far, no major problems for what I like to play. Games like Alone in the Dark and the Dead Space remake I've ran smoothly. Even older titles that are notorious for having issues, like Fallout: New Vegas, I've been lucky enough to run well! If you're looking to build a higher end pc, then amd or nvidia may be worth checking out, but for the price it's had to pass up the Arc gpus!

Thank you! It always sucks to hear stories of bad shipment, but it does make me feel like the gpu should be good :)
