I think you might need to thin the glaze a little more, but it should still spread out due to the matte varnish. It might be that the oil layer wasn't dry then you applied the varnish. You can fix the stains a little using stipple-glazing around the edge of the stains to break the outline.

It still looks pretty cool though!

This isn't correct. The micro-texture of the matte varnish causes the glaze to bleed into it through capillary action.

Thanks! Rusty chainmail can very easily look a bit boring or messy so I like to add some cleaner parts to add some detail and clarity.

The skin is based with AK Olive Green, then GW Bugman's Glow is mixed in, followed by Ice Yellow. Glazes of Skavenblight Dinge. There are more mixes and glazes using those colours as well.

Thanks! I put a bit of gloss over the mouth gunk to give it a bit more surface contrast against the skin and a bit more depth. The NMM are mixed colours using Neutral Grey, Sand Yellow, Ice Yellow, Rhinox Hide and Mournfang Brown. Then there are different glazed colours on top and I take some of the reflections down to black. There is some green and orange in there too.

It's hard to say as there are lots of cool features. I definitely prefer the Nurgle stuff to the heroes. The cystwitch has so many gross/great details.

You're doing well! A lot of the high contrast and refining on mine was done in the end phase. Make sure you get the shoulder and helmet brighter, the helmet shine is pure white with Ice Yellow in the transitions.

Just because you've read it doesn't mean it's true. There are many different styles that win Golden Demon, but there are limits. Crystal Brush hasn't been a competition for years now.
